Well. I have arrived in George Town, Penang and have been here for the past few days.
I am having a really awesome time here back on the island. We turned up at about 5pm after taking a bus to Butterworth from KL, and then a ferry across to the Jeti. However, we ended up not getting to our intended hostel until more like 6.30pm, as there is a mistake in the Lonely Planet map of George Town that said our hostel was over a 1km away from where we were navigating to. Instead of getting to Travellers Lodge, we ended up at 100 Cintra, which was closed for refurbishment! Not good when its raining and your all soaked lol.
But yeah, we got to Travellers Lodge after sitting down for a beer and realising they must of got the numbers wrong in the map. So we eventually find the place. The hostel we are staying at is really cool. Mr. Loe who works there has to be the most welcoming member of hostel staff i have ever met, and definetely makes you want to stay there. Surely he must be high or something! no one can be THAT happy to see new travellers lol.We stay twin room sharing with my mate, works out about 4 quid a night for both of us, so a bargin! Although the place is full of some rather odd people, like some guy who claims to have just been released from prison in Cambodia, and another guy who walks around almost naked all day. No one staying there is friendly either and it seems to be just the same people day in day out, with of course ultra cool people like me and chris just staying away as long as possible lol.
So what have I been up ta? Well on the first night I met up with my friend who lives here (Kelley), and went for some beers at the beach at Batu Ferringi in her friends 4x4, which was a good night out! nice to catch up with Kelley after not seeing each other for so long, and sorta coming together with a plan of Thailand and Cambodia. On the second night we ended up going to the beach during the day at Batu Fringi, and then went and had some beers in George Town at night. Then yesterday Kelley drove us to a temple and also to Penang Hill, where we sat at the top at this really posh restuarant, being waited on by a smartly dressed butler whilst sipping devonshire cream tea and hot choclate, *puts posh voice on* laughing and having a rather jolly good time and eating away at our scones *posh laugh*.
Then back down the hill, we get some food, then go for some beers again. Kelley then goes home due to work in the morning (poor Kelley!), then we stay out pretty much to 3am, drinking non alchoholic drinks and sucking away at our bong, ultra relaxing. So relaxing and lazy we got one of the trishaw (peddle bike taxi) to take us our hostel only 200m away lol.
So yeah, I have had an awesome time here. When I come back me and Kelley are going to go back up the hill to the really posh restuarant, and be all posh and drink lots of tea for the afternoon. But for now, we are just preparing for our next trip. The plan for now is to cross into Thailand tommorow to the s*** hole port of Surat Thani, then take the overnight cargo ship to the island of Koh Tao, where we will do a couple of days of chilling out and scuba diving, before catching a overnight train from the mainland to Bangkok on the evening of the 27th.
So, for those who have read this far, thanks! keep checking out my facebook as i intend to start uploading photos very shortly.
Chow for now!
Gazza!
