Gong Gi Fa Cai! Hey all! I have been reading all the message board comments, keep em coming!
Well I am currently on the Island of Penang, Im not too far away from the Thai border now! I finally arrived here on Feb 6th after a slightly traumatic experience in getting here! and am currently on my 6th and final night here.
The train ride here was an experience, first of all I had to board it on a nearly deserted train platform, with some poor old man who I felt sorry for because he was going through bins picking stuff out of it, which I assumed was his meal. Bless, that was until he gets a plastic bag, empties it, faces the wall, drops his trousers and starts ermmm, enjoying himself.
Quiet freaked out at how f***ing mank that was, I walked over to the far end of the train platform and told one of the train station workers about the strange old man.
Anyway, my train arrives on time, I had a first class sleeping cabin, which was very small, and of which I had to share with a local. The train ride was s***. First of all the train looked like it was built in the 50s, the old man I shared with got me nervous, I try to go to sleep early but the train is really noisy, the aircon doesnt work well, and the train stops at every train station known to man! So when you finally nod off to sleep, your woken up either by the s*** track throwing the train around, the squealing of the brakes, or whatever the couple next door are getting up to.
Anyway, I arrived Butterworth in the morning, and got on the 20 min ferry ride to the island of Penang. I arrived in a place called Love Lane Inn, on Love Lane. Apparently this street "used" to be a red light district, I think it still is as I have had many offers, even from people with questionable gender. I thought that was only in Thailand! scary.
The accomodation I am in is ok, I cant really complain for the price of a little over a pound a day. But they defeinetly have the s***yist plumbing on the planet. Basically the toilets are linked by an open air chanel, past where the clothes are dried and where we sit to drink our beer, then out to the street. Its f***ing mank, every 15 minutes you get a nice fragrence of smells from the left overs of someones curry.
Anyway, I am having an amazing time on this Island! Ive stayed here longer than intended though. The reason for that being the Chineese new year, and its a b**** of a problem to get off this island until atleast tommorow. Whilst in Penang I went clubbing with some of the locals, I jungle trekked to Monkey Beach, which as the name suggests has a crap load of monkeys. I also spent a day on the beach, Jet Ski'd, drank beer. played pool, drank some more beer and generally just chilled out. Ive also learned the equivelent to "cheers" in 5 different languages, and I can ask for a beer in 3 :p
Anyway tommorow I will be 'hopefully' getting the ferry to Langawi, which is a duty free island. Which means the beer is 3 times cheaper! whayhey!
I will blog again when I arrive there!
Enjoy the sun in England while you can and keep the msgs coming! :)
Skol!
