January 28th - January 30th
Ok, so there was no real choice of internet in the jungle, so I write this now from Kuala Lumpur.
Me and a guy called Richard who I met in KL arrived in Taman Negera sorta late afternoon on the 28th, after a 3 hour boat journey down the river to the National Park. We passed some abosultely amazing jungle scenery, where we spotted monkeys, snakes that swam across the river and buffalo.
Anyway, the accomodation we stayed in was a 8 person dorm based in a village just off the river. It was ok, the beds where clean, but the toilet and shower was extreamly grim. Also the entire jungle area was infested with what I could only describe as cockroaches with wings that behave like moths. Highly annoying, ugly, loud (100s where camped outside our hostel because of the lights) And you dont feel bad about killing the b*****s.
Anyway, shortly after our dinner, we went on a night jungle trek. It was really fun walking around the middle of a jungle with only a flashlight. We saw scorpions, overgrown grass hoppers, spiders, termites, deer, lots of annoying coackroaches with wings, stick insects, leaf instect and errmm, trees, lots of trees lol.
The second day (our first full day) we went on the worlds largest canopy walkway. Very high off the jungle floor, very small width, and very ricketty! not for someone who hates heights!
We then went climing to the top of the first hill off the river, through pretty dense jungle. The view at the top though made the 1 1/2 hour trek to the top more than worth it! we were all sweaty messes by the end of it!
We then went to ride the river rapids, and then ended up at a local tribal village, where I made fire with wood, and had a go at shooting darts using a bamboo shoot. We then had dinner, then trekked half an hour to find somewhere that would sell us beer. Went to sleep, got up the next morning to catch the boat back to the bus station 3 hours down the river.
All in all though it was an amazing time! I am now about to leave KL with my next destination being malaka! expect pictures soon!
