Fight night.
We arrived in Koh Phangan today and there's something about this place we already love. The hour and half ferry over was so bumpy, there were a group of girls sitting by us near the front of the ferry all feeling really sea sick. I waited at least and hour before telling them that they were sitting in the worst part of the ferry and if they sat at the back it would feel less bumpy lol. Chris slept the whole way while I listened to some house music on my iPod, clubbing away to it in my head getting ready for the Full Moon party.
We shared a large tuk tuk with some other people also heading to Had Yao in the north west of the island. One of the girls lived only five minutes from me back home. She and her friend told us how they volunteered to do teaching while they were in North Korea and were planning to do the same when they get to India later in their travels. This got me thinking how I would like to also volunteer, but I don't think I could teach English like the girls lol, Chris is always pulling me up on my bad grammar. He has to check these blogs before they are saved lol.
The whole island seems to be made up of very steep bendy roads, sometimes it feels like your on a roller coaster! It didnt take long to get to our bungalow resort. We were welcomed straight away by the very friendly manager Bella. She is so bubberly and has this very high pitched happy voice and smiles all the time. She asked us to sit down for a drink. The reception / restaurant area looked really chilled out. There was a flat screen tv on the wall and plenty of space to lye around on cushioned mattresses. I love these mattresses and hope to ship one home at some point. One couple instantly started talking to us and were very friendly. Their names were Bryn and Alex, they told us how much they liked this place and were planning on staying here longer. The way they discribed the place made us like the area even more and we hadn't even seen our bungalow yet.
Bella gave us our key and sent our rucksacks up the hill on a motor bike. We realised why after climbing up a very steep hill to get to our bungalow at the very top. We were both knackerd by the time we got there but it was so worth it. The view of the jungle on one side and the ocean on the other was so beautiful it was perfect. We have a hammock on our balcony and our room inside the bungalow is very clean and bright. The fan is stong and not noisy, the toilet works and we have plugs and hot water! It feels like home.
We spent most of the day in the chill out area, had some lunch, dinner before getting ready to go down to Had Rin at the south of the island. We watched my friend Stuart's Muay Thai fight. He was brilliant and knocked his opponent out in the second round. We watched seven fights all together Stuart's being the last one. Each fight got faster and stronger, saving the best fight to last. The atmosphere was great and the cockney commentator was hilarious. He kept taking the piss out of the fighters but also explained the origins of Muay Thai and the history of each of the fighters. Some of the fighters were as young as seventeen fighting against twenty-seven year olds. Suprisingly it was the younger guys that won! Another fight was a huge Russian guy against an old smaller Thai guy. The Russian lept into the old guy like an animal, throwing punch after punch. It looked like a sure knock out but the old guy sprung straight back with a huge grin on his face lol! Eventually the Russian guy used up all his energy beating the hell out of the other guy and lost. The old man was a bit of a known legend, we really don't know how he survived lol.
After the fights we surprised Stuart and met up with him at the after party at Coral Bungalows Pool Party. We didn't get in the pool, I'm sure the water would have been full of piss and Stuarts friend was apparently sick in it!
We had trouble trying to convince a tuk tuk driver to take us back to Had Yao for less than 500 bht. It only cost us 400 bht to get there yet they wanted to charge us 1000 bht to get back! We agreed 500 bht in the end, got back and hit the pillow.
