We had no problem getting up early today, we were finally off to Fiji! We both loved being in New Zealand and glad we came during the winter even though it was bloody cold! Luckily for us though we didn't experience any real bad weather, just a few rainy days in Auckland. We loved all the different scenic routes from Christchurch to Whangarei, passing through so much farm land backed by snowy mountains. We've seen silvery lakes and thick fog and we never knew until now that you can get snow in a rainforest! We came to New Zealand not only to see it's beautiful landscape but to also push ourselves into doing some crazy s***! Bungee jump and sky dive! Im very proud of myself for conquering my fear of heights by doing the Nevis 134 meter jump and doing it for a great course too! I'm so grateful to those who supported me by donating to my chosen charity Charcot Marie Tooth Disease (CMT), after a year of planning and finally doing it, I'm still s*** scared of heights and i'm glad it's all over now.
Chris wanted to bungee jump just because he's nuts and a bit of an adrenaline freak! As if the Nevis wasn't big enough, he's now thinking of doing the 233 meter bungee jump in China! I really want him to do it just so I can see him crap his pants! But we will see...
We said good bye to Joel and his family and jumped into the camper, Chris already had the engine running so it was toasty inside. We left extra early so we could drive to a self service car wash before dropping the van off at the Auckland Apollo office. The contract states we must bring the van back clean but I think Chris may have gone a bit too far. He washed the outside until it was sparkling clean, I gave the inside a quick sweep and dust over and checked for anything hidden in the cupboards. I got out and we both admired Chris's work on the damage on the front corner of the camper. It was barely visible, I asked him why he bothered to clean the van so well and he said before he did the front corner stood out too much, as he had to clean it to sand and spray paint it!
We continued to the office and gave the camper back. We both watched as a lady inspected the van for any damage holding our breath as she went around the front. Yes, we got away with it! She didn't notice the dent on the corner so we got our $250 deposit back. It was worth buying a $6 white spray can and a bit of sand paper!
Feeling smug we left the office and got dropped off at the airport, we started to fill out a customs form when Chris suddenly realised he had left his blue wallet with all our important itinerary and other information bits in the camper! He snapped at me first and I gave him an evil look, then he stormed off to call the office to find out if it was still there. He came back relaxed and said they would drop it to us straight away. I stared at him until he gave me an apology.
We checked in and went through customs, our bags now weigh 16 and 18 Kgs! We cant believe how heavy they have become! It has to be all the toiletries we stocked up on for Fiji!
Once we were through we sat down and ate burger king for lunch then we waited to board our flight. I could feel the greasy burger sitting in my belly, which i've noticed is slowly getting bigger and softer! I said to chris,"Thats it, i'm getting fit in Fiji!" of course he laughed at me in doubt.
The flight felt longer than three hours. I was tired so would have slept the whole way if the seats weren't so stiff! They wouldn't recline so my head kept bobbing all over the place! Chris was happy enough to sit and listen to his iPod. I couldn't do that easily either because one of my ear phones kept turning off! I didn't even bother to attempt watching the film they put on, the tv screen was as big as our iPad and situated at least two meters away. Then there was the very annoying kid sitting in front of us. He had pepper pig playing loudly over and over again, when he got bored of watching that he turned his attention to our window. My only enjoyment was watching the guy sitting on my other side get more pissed off than me. The kid kept opening the window shutter so the bright sunlight temporarily blinded him, making me giggle.
A little later on we were handed out snack boxes then the stewardesses came back round with alcoholic drinks. I had already decided I wanted a rum and coke and excitedly waited as we were next. I watched as she made up a disgusting Bloody Mary for a gentlemen then just has she was putting the tomato juice away she spilled it all down Chris's leg and trainer! The lady was very apologetic, I watched and waited for Chris to get mad but surprisingly he didn't, probably because he knew he now had the opportunity to get as many free drinks out of her as he liked. So the flight wasn't so bad after all, we got a few free beers, rum and cokes and wines out of it.
We landed at Nadi airport at 4pm. It was nice to feel warm weather again. Once we collected our bags from the conveyor belt we found a travel shop just outside. We needed an island hopping itinerary and of course we wanted the best price. Straight away we told the travel agent we just wanted a price today. The lady, well we think she was a lady, (she was so big and hairy she could have been a man) kept us there for two hours and spoke a lot of crap! We could never get a straight answer from her. I knew she was talking rubbish as soon as she said she could give us a special price, this usually means i'm going to rip you off. And when she said she was family to the managers of the resorts she was selling, this means she thinks we are suckers and gullible.
Getting no where fast we decided it was now too late to go anywhere else for a price so would have to stay in Nadi for two nights and start looking again tomorrow. We took some leaflets and an Awesome Adventures brochure and let the lady book us into the Beach Villas Resort not too far away for $45 a night. We specifically chose this resort because they offered free wifi and we would be able to look up islands ourself. As we stood up to leave the office the lady put her arm up, I stupidly leant in and hugged her, I instantly realised she was only waving us good bye but by then it was too late and we were wrapped in an awkward cuddle. I turned and saw Chris pissing himself laughing outside. I quickly left completely red faced with embarrassment.
When we got to the resort we were showed to our private room with a shared bathroom. The resort was very quiet so we had the whole villa to ourselfs. We put our stuff down then went back to the reception to get the wifi code. The friendly receptionist gave it to us but advised it had not been working today. Then another member of staff said it would be fine by tomorrow morning. We felt a little frustrated but were too shattered by now to care.
We sat down and ordered some dinner. I had a tuna steak and Chris chose the snapper, it was really nice and only cost us $13 and $14! If the food stays this great while we are in Fiji then I should definitely be able to get fit, right?!! Comfortably full we waddled off to bed.
