I woke up with a horrible sore throat this morning, looking at the back of my throat I think I might have caught tonsillitis! That's all I need, I hope Chris doesn't catch it. I think it must have been from the regulators from diving the last two days. Anyway after checking out we walked across the road to catch a bus back to Nadi. We weren't really sure when the bus was coming and if it would be a squishy mini van or a coach. It was really hot and sticky and we didn't really fancy the few hours back like that so when a car pulled up and asked if we wanted to get in we said yes. Chris asked if the driver was going to Nadi and how much he wanted, thankfully he didn't want any more than the price of the bus ticket which was a result. At first I wasn't sure if we should trust the stranger but Chris told me to stop worrying and get in. There were already two other people in the car getting a lift so I supposed it was ok. He put our bags in the tiny boot and away we went.
Chris, a Fijian lady and me were perhaps a little bit too cosy in the back, it was probably better than being squished in a hot mini van. There was a lot of weight in the guys tiny car and although he tried his best to miss the pot holes in the road he was driving too quickly to avoid all of them. He smashed into a few and it sounded like he suddenly broke the suspension! Every little bump afterwards gave a terrible screeching sound as the wheels scratched away at the arches. Chris thought it was funny.
After an hour and twenty minutes the guy in the front got out so Chris moved into the front seat which gave me a lot more space in the back. The car still screeched as it went over bumps and pot holes though.
We got into Nadi town by 2pm, so it took two hours and twenty minutes. We went straight to a chemist to buy some antibiotics for my throat, then we took a taxi to Nadi Bay. This time we stayed at New Town Beach Motel. We put our stuff down and went out for lunch, the first place we stopped at only had rice dishes available but we fancied something western so we walked a bit further until we found a livelier pub like restaurant along the beach. They had a live band playing which were quite good but the drunk people getting up to dance were more entertaining. One aussie guy looked like he was on something and had everyone in stitches.
After a delicious curry we headed back to our room to pack our bags for tomorrow. Chris got hungry again later so went out to get some snacks from a shop we saw earlier in the day. The streets were really dark now and he was gone for a very long time. I started to get really worried so left the motel to look for him. I started down the street then realised I needed a torch. I ran back to get one then started down the dark street again. It was no good, the torch was useless in the dark so I went back thinking about getting a taxi to find him. Just then I could just make out Chris's big silhouette bopping down the other end of the street. He had a bloody pizza box in his hands and a big smile on his face! Bloody idiot could have told me he went for pizza instead, would have saved me walking around the streets looking for him all worried! I gave him a slap on the arm then took the pizza from him.
We're up early tomorrow to catch a flight to our next sunny destination, Bali!
