First off let me apoligise in the lateness of writing my blog, it seems that getting on the internet is harder then what it seems. Anyways so the last time I wrote I had said about looking forward to our weekend with Eleana so here it goes.
We finally left the city of Melbourne which we were pretty relieved about to be honest (as i stated before we are not city girls) and headed for the beach aka St Kilda, this is also where the rain followed us!First off Eleana informed us that we can in fact see penguins at the end of the pier at St Kilda at sunset (which saved us from a 2 hours drive to Phillip Island). So we walked around the funky deco off St Kilda, the streets were full of funky little shops and bakerys which have the most amazing treats (to which we did indulge), we also had our first Aussie Nandos although have to say not the same as Uk Nandos (UK being better) which was rather strange. Anyways so other then lots of food in St Kilda we did browse the shops, Me and Karly soon realised we will never be able to afford clothes here so just walked around in a day dream staring at the beautiful clothes. After this we headed to a nice little wine bar where Karly decides that her top is ill fitting and randomly starts adjusting herself in front of the Bar man (Karly insists that there was no way he could see......he could), He stares at her and laughs at her basically playing with her breasts to which he turns to me and says 'Is she ok', my reply 'She is british, just ignore her'. Suppose you had to be there but the guys face was hilarious. We also got to see some local hippies (aka 60 years olds stuck in a time warp) engaging in some free love in the corner........I am not going to lie but there is a certain age where extreme PDA should not be allowed.
The sun begins to set so we head towards the edge of the pier where an odd squeaky voiced rabi decided to ask us a series of questions and then tell us about the penguins (I am not making this up) in a Brian Cox styley. Thanks for the free info Rabi. He soon disapears and the rain comes, Karly needs a wee but its a treck to the nearest toilet so decides to hold it leading to a wee dance (see pictures) and we all huddle together waiting for the sworm of penguins that are ment to embark. We only ended up seeing one penguin :-( but if we had hung around a bit more I am sure we would of seen some more but with the rain and the wee we were getting a bit impatient. We have decided that we will venture there again maybe to see if we get to see anymore but one is better then none.
We now head over to Eleanas friends Alice (great girl) and head out for the evening to a local pub where their rugby friends are having a leaving do (some guy is going to france). Whilst at the pub I turn to see a guy across the room who I swear I recognise from Surrey, I tell the girls and insist i am indeed not going crazy, yet how can I be the otherside of the world and recognise someone from little ole Camberley in Surrey. Karly goes and investigates to see if she can hear an english accent, her answer 'I think he is but its to noisy' so when he walks past us we decided to ask him. I am NOT crazy the guy is from Camberley....Small friggin world! So after a chin wag he leaves and we carry on with our eve, Ele buys me and Karly shots (not the best idea) to which hyper mode kicks in, we have a laugh with some French guys (I thought they were taking the mick at first until they insisted for the 12 hundreth time that they were indeed french) and as the drinking starts to take a hault we feel the need to go dancing. So we are taken to a local 'pub/club' where there is a dance floor and as well as a dj a 'rock' (i use that term very loosely) band perform a whole list of random songs (can you really picture bryan adams, once direction and blink 182 all in one playlist????) but still it was an experience. At one point it did turn into a scene out of Gypsey Weddings, apparently its ok for guys to just grab you in the most inappropriate places and you are in fact ment to swoon. Not in the case my friends, Karly punched not ONE but TWO guys and I gave one an earful and whacked the hand away. Idiots! Thank god we left not long after that because I think we had just about enough.
Anyhow the next day we laze at Eleanas pad, her step mum very kindly takes us out for a drive to see some wild Kangaroos and Emus, AMAZING and then takes us up this mountain called the 'you yangs' where the view is just unbelivable, my pictures do not do it justice. We go to a nice little italian in the eve in Geelong and get an early night ready to meet the Koalas the following day.
It is not Monday and Eleana takes us to Jarrahlinga to meet the Koalas, it was like a tiny little animal sanctuary near Geelong. We go inside the Koala pen and the lady tells us all about the Koalas, sadly they are asleep but we still got to stroke them. The fur is so weird, not at all what I had expected, I would say the closest thing to it is sheeps furs. Quiet rough. They also had lots of Kangaroos there (wasnt quite the same as seeing them in the wild) but was nice to get up and close. After Jarrahlinga Eleana takes us to this nice little beach and we take a stroll along for a couple of hours. End to a great weekend. We get dropped off at our new Hostel in Torquay. All looks good so far. Keep you updated.
