Our last day in Paris.... I took Michelle to the post office as she wanted a box to mail things home and then I met Tennille for breakfast. We went to cafe Pierre and were served by the most cute waiter ever. Tennille had two breakfasts! And then she tried to pay him using pounds!! After that rather fun start to our day we met the kids at the coach and set off for Giverny. The traffic was pretty heavy and I was a bit sorry I had given the kids an extra half hour sleep in. The French countryside is lovely in the Spring. We drove through Vernon and arrived in the car park at G and the car park fellow was highly excited to see us as we were booked and on time and he had a coach space reserved for us. Despite the fact that John could speak French, he wanted to practice his English so we were given very odd directions. Fortunately I had been there before so I knew the way and we reached the group entrance easily. We went through the house garden, the house and the water garden in that order. I took loads of photos as it was so lovely. The roses are mostly in bud so it will look fantastic in a few weeks but I was more than delighted by the pansies and the irises were all out. I have never seen such variety of colours and irises as large. It was quite delightful.
We bought lunch and it was awful and then headed back to the city to Orsay hoping we would not be late for our booking. I was sorry to have to leave out Vernon and then the traffic was fine and we reached Paris with an hour to spare so we took the kids for crepes which was good fun. Then we headed for Orsay. The queues were horrendous and it was raining lightly but Tennille had booked and we were whisked right in which was a lovely feeling. We had a tour booked and the museum was very busy. The tour guides took us in two groups. Despite my telling them what I wanted, they showed us what they wanted to and we did not get to see the two items I wanted the kids to see. It was very interesting and I enjoyed the input from
the guides but the kids were pretty tired and I felt that if I dragged them
to the two exhibits then, they would have had little impact so pictures in books and from the Internet will have to do. We then went on a river cruise and it was awful. The kids loved it but there were some tourists who behaved very inconsiderately (lower class Asians) and it was freezing cold. I endured the hour and then we set off for dinner where Rob joined us. Having John with us to translate I could tell them it was our third group visit. The Eiffel Tower had been shrouded in mist on and off all day so I was not very hopeful about getting up it and there had been massive crowds earlier in the week. but we were lucky! We just walked in and went up. It was a lovely finish for the very excited kids. Now it just remains to get home without incident.
