We are fast approaching Paris and I cannot help feeling excited. I was so impressed with Paris in 1995 when I first saw the city and 2006 holds some special memories for me as does every other visit I have made. I hope the holiday crowds will not spoil it for me!
LATER
We checked in to our hotel fairly easily and I was very happy to have John's French - he is. Actually pretty fluent!! Gail has been driving us crazy.... The least of the hassles has been her snoring which keeps us awake and then she insists on getting up at 5 am which also disturbs what little sleep we are getting. So we have gone for our own rooms in Paris. We have had to take double rooms so we are VERY comfortable. I shall charge the excess on Gail's room to her but the trip will
just have to absorb my and Tennille's costs and in the interests of having functional leaders it is money well spent.
My room is on the top floor and T is next door. We have G a floor below!!! The roof beams add atmosphere to my room and the view is marvellous- across the roof tops of Paris. It is quieter than the room from my previous stay with Barbara. I have a double bed to myself and my own bathroom - what luxury. The kids are happy too as they are in rooms of three and four. They were finding dorms of ten quite difficult.
After check in I had a very quick shower and changed for dinner. Yes, I wore the dress and it still fits so the damage is probably not as bad as I think!!
We walked down to dinner - about a 35 minute walk and I cannot remember when last I enjoyed myself so much. We had great tables and the waiters were fabulous with the kids. We also had a musician serenade them
with French songs. They were such an appreciative audience they joined in and he did waltzing Matilda for them
and they sang him a home among the gum trees!! He then taught them
some French songs.. all good fun. The food was incredible. And that is my last big feast. From now on in I shall be very good. The choc mousse was all I had hoped it would be.
Gail has NOT dealt well with the later nights and eating after 5:30 pm which of course normal people do all the time!! I. Found her quite sulky last night . At Tennille ' s suggestion we put her in a cab arranged by John and got
her back to the hotel while the rest of us walked past Notre Dame and a few other sights. The kids had a ball and I have had a real night 's sleep. T and I are off to shop this morning while the kids have a morning off to rest. Be scared, be very scared!!!!!
