So, Day 3 over and done with. Covered a distance of 107 miles, with just over 8 hours spent in the saddle, and on 5 hours sleep from the previous night.
It was gruelling to say the least, up and down the whole way, and when I wasn't on a gradient I was cycling into a headwind 80% of the time. Was during these times in particular when being in a group, or even just having another rider to rotate with, would have paid dividends. Having someone else to act as a wind-breaker makes a huge difference.
There's no way I could have accomplished this distance without the support and undying optimism of Anne & Mike. Having them follow me in their car, or shoot ahead and wait for me 5 miles down the road was such a welcome site, and I haven't had to worry about food and water the whole time! I've got two more days of their company before they have to head back, and already I know it will be a huge blow to see them go.
That said, I'm feeling pretty good about the challenge. My knees are in a fair amount of pain right now and I can feel them radiating warmth. However, a good nights sleep, combined with some decent stretching in the morning should do the trick.
We've been out for dinner to a local pizzeria (which was lovely) and now all back at the hotel. No alam set for tomorrow, but when the time to rise does come around it will be way too soon!
P.S. Not many photos taken by myself today as letting Anne take charge of that!
