Today's highlight. 21 miles in, and 676 miles in total, and I overtook another cyclist! He may have been 50 plus, but he was on a racing bike and in lycra, with no baggage / panniers, so it counts! Caught up with him on an uphill, before overtaking him at the crest. Was more than chuffed to say the least!
France was like a ghost town today, Castres was dead, and apart from the odd car on the road, everyone must have been shut indoors! Guessing it's going go be back to normal tomorrow.
I stopped at around the 40 mile mark for lunch, taking a nice long rest before starting on what was to be a lengthy ascent up le Montagne Noir. It seemed to go on for ever, with the going painfully slow. Still, the views were spectacular, and although I could feel cramp building, I managed to hold it off.
When I got to the summit I was given a cheer by a couple of families picnicking there, was a nice boost. A plateau followed, then had a lengthy descent down to Carcassonne, just what I needed to get my energy back. Managed 40mph plus, but strong cross winds, combined with my own desire to make it to Barcelona on one piece, prevented me from going any faster.
Last night in Formula 1 Hotel, fully expect them to start rationing me at breakfast!
