Well I know I have definitely been in Canada too long because the first thing I am going to talk about again is the weather!! But in my defence it pretty much does determine what we actually do here. So this week has been quite a nice one with plenty of sunshine and warm days. With the warm days though, it has become quite hectic work wise.

Pretty much as soon as it starts to get warm and dry out everything needs to be done at once. All 800 weaners have been in and processed to go out to the pastures. They were vaccinated, drenched and tagged with fly tags, which was quite an intense time because Perry wanted to get them done as quickly as possible just in case it rained again. Once done they went on the 'liner' (cattle truck) and were hauled out to adgistment somewhere.

Chris and Perry have also been busy getting fields ready for crops. There has been fertiliser going in the ground and paddocks being harrowed. This adds to the chaos going on because I am pretty much left to deal with the cows on my own and call on Chris or Perry if I need them. There have therefore been some very long days starting with the morning check at 6am and working until 9:30 pm on occasion. At least I am now being paid by the hour (rather than the day) so I just have to think of the extra money I am making!!

I have been busy pairing out more cows and trying to find mum's for orphaned calves. There were two sets of twins in the heifers this week as well as some heifers who couldn't stand after calving. I have therefore had quite a few calves to feed until some foster cows came along.

I have also become better acquainted with Looney (the horse) who I have been using for mustering and pairing. He isn't named Looney because he's a lunatic…it's what the Canadians call their $1 coin. He is a rather big horse and was only broken last year but is pretty cowy and works well. He seems to have a fear of wheelbarrows though…I have no idea why!!!

I have also been working more with the colt and have decided to call him Kahlua. Not sure what Perry thinks of the name or if it will stick but that is what I call him. He is pretty much bomb proof after the processing of the weaners as he was suck in the shed with us the whole time.

Another accomplishment that I made this week was that I managed to tag the calf of my nemesis. There is a cow in one of the mobs that is a right b**** and just kept running all over the place with her calf and was quite aggressive anytime I tried to catch it. I carried a tag around for her calf for about a week and eventually managed to catch the cow unawares while she was stuffing her ugly face at the feed bunker. The calf was on the other side of the paddock and I managed to get her tagged before mum made it back…as Chris said when I told him "Oh happy days!!"

Other than that there is nothing new to report. I have seen lots of coyote's getting around and some more deer but no bears yet. Apparently they should be starting to get around though so I will definitely keep my eyes peeled!! Mum informs me that it is starting to get colder over there so I suppose the tables are turning as we are heading into warmer weather over here.
