The first leg of the journey involved flying from Brisbane to Vancouver via Auckland. Miller kindly dropped me at the airport at about 10 (Pa suggested I get there at 7) and I spent the 3 hours until my flight watching Revenge….cheers Tik!!! On the plane to Auckland it turns out I was sitting next to some Canadian lady who had been in Australia for 10 weeks visiting her daughter who had just had her 3rd baby. Her daughter's name was Heidi and she came from Meandarra (do you know her Kate?), so I had a nice chat to her.
I spent a rather uneventful night in Vancouver. Although an interesting point for me (and I say this in a completely un-racist way) was that holy white man there were a lot of Asians around. I'm not sure if they are taking over Vancouver or what but I went to the shops and saw about 5 Caucasian people and a lot of the signs were in Asian (is that even a language?!?!).
Anyway I then got on the plane to Regina. Which is not pronounced like the name Reg-ee-na in Australia rather Reg-i-na (yes it rhymes with the word vagina). Here I was picked up by Linda and Isabelle. Linda is Perry's mum and Isabelle is her sister.
They drove me back to Moosomin and on the way stopped off to buy me a work jacket and boots (don't tell our backpackers that mum). We had dinner at the Red Barn in Moosomin which had great food and then Linda dropped me at the Ranch. Perry and Kristy were still at hockey with the kids so she left me to my own devices.
The next day Perry took me on a bit of a tour to show me what was what. They have aboot (Canadian lingo there) 5 mobs of cows starting to calve at the moment and they check them aboot 4 times a day. I think that have close to 9,000 acres, but they lease most of it out and only use 3,000. They have to feed hay and silage for 6 months of the year and over the summer they send most of the cows away to pastures were they are looked after by 'cowboys'.
After this the kids had another hockey game so I went with them to watch. The game was in Hartney which is about 1.5 hours away in the province of Manitoba. This was good fun and pretty interesting to watch. The kids are Kaleb (10), Blake (9), Dwight (8) and Alyssa (7).
Saturday was a beautiful day with the sun out and about 16ᴼC. Unfortunately Sunday was not so nice. It started off ok, but around 2pm it started to snow and dropped to about -3ᴼC. It was pretty cool to see but I hope it doesn't happen very often!!!
