So, last nights effort to keep warm was a partial success. Leggings definitely a keeper, in fact I invested in a new pair. The addition of the duvet was also a winner. Remaining issues: frozen faces, red dog noses and ice on the outside of our sleeping bags (well nearly). Not sure what the solution is ??? Maybe we need more wine ??
Anyhow, the roads on the way to Queenstown were mental! Hair pin bends and sheer drops lead to a slow and cautious journey, to liven up the experience we had banging garage music as our sound track. Not feeling like I had lived on the edge enough today, I dropped Todders off at the tinternet and got dressed in my soggy bikini for a round of white water rafting courtesy of LTSB. So thanks guys, it was much fun, if a little cold and as a now skint backpacker it's great to have free activities to look forward to. The best bit was definitely the rapids through a tunnel which was originally dug for gold mining purposes and the worst the water temperature at 7 degrees! Todders even got a free shower and Sauna, thanks to my very kind rafting instructor Tom.
That night brought with it as you would expect by now, more carnage! This time Queenstown style: jugs of beer, vodka, teapots and jaeger bombs, dancing with the Aussie rafting team picking up the tab, thanks guys!
The next day brought with it a hangover!! I struggled all day... but sadly no time to sit around. First up the shotover Jet boat, 30 mins of adrenaline fueled excitement on the shotover river, travelling at 80kmph towards cliff faces and into 360 turns. Temporarily woke me up but I took a turn for the worse again straight after, so we headed to the pub for bangers and mash. It was lovely! Next it was time to redeem my quad biking voucher. 2 hours of driving about like a nutter, through mud, giant puddles, cow pats, cow ridden fields and gravel tracks all with the spectacular back drop of the snow capped mountains in the gleaming sunshine, fabulous, even with a headache! Thanks again Lloyds TSB, it was a great present.
That evening I managed a burger for dinner and sleep, 9pm and we were both dead to the world.
