So we arrived in Airlie on Friday. The drive from Yeppoon to Airlie was so long. It felt as though it took forever. Perhaps this was because we really wanted to get to Airlie or it was because we only had about an hours worth of music to keep us going. We stopped by in Mackay and Bec stated that she saw absolutely no good looking people in the shopping centre. We aren't saying that everyone in Mackay is ugly, just on the particular day, there were no good looking people in the shopping centre. Carli bought a dress, which went on her credit card (first credit card purchase, it was exciting!!)
We stayed at Magnums backpackers and as you can imagine we had a pretty darn awesome time. Anyone who has been to Airlie knows exactly what happened and we won't go into it. Let's just say, things got hectic. $3 spirits, is dangerous.
Airlie is beautiful. We spent the most of Saturday laying on the beach, just relaxing. We went out for dinner on Saturday night and the most exciting thing happened. An eagle swooped into a nearby tree and grabbed a smaller bird, it then flew directly at us, Carli was facing it and she nearly ended up under the table. The eagle ran into the shading of he restaurant, much to the delight of the small bird as this caused the eagle to let the small bird go. The small bird fluttered away quickly as the dopey eagle, flew away rather ashamed of itself and probably still hungry.
Being unemployed is such a hard job. Our biggest problems range from carrying our luggage from the car to our room and what are we going to eat next.
We made a variety of friends, some from Ireland, some from Scotland and some British (pretty much the whole UK, we don't count Wales). Also met lost of Aussies. All in all Airlie was brilliant. I think I would love to work and live there. The atmosphere is fun. Everyone is friendly and life seems easy.
