The shuttle got us safely to our hotel, so we checked in (no luggage there yet) and scheduled an Uber to take us to SAF to get our rental car. The app said a driver would be here in 25 minutes, but he was here already, so we scrambled downstairs! Our driver was great. When we got to SAF, our luggage was still there; they had not received the request to send them to our hotel, despite the fact that we had a document showing the request had been sent.
We then went to the car rental window. They had not received the reservation change, so they did not have our car; they had no information on us at all. The representative, a new employee, contacted his manager, who talked him through getting our reservation back in the system. He did a good job, and they did have one smaller vehicle they could give us, so we took it till the next day. He said they would have our car by 9 the next morning. At 11:25, the time our rescheduled flight to SAF should have arrived, we were about ready to leave. We hadn’t gained a thing by changing to an earlier flight.
We headed back to our lodging and went to bed, finally, at about 12:45 the next morning.
