We arrived at DFW in time to make it to our departure gate with time to spare. On boarding, they complementary-checked our carryon because of lack of available space on the aircraft. We were seated, together this time, and thought we were ready to go when the pilot came on with an announcement that we were waiting for word regarding a problem at the Santa Fe airport (SAF). After waiting an hour, he finally got word that the airport was without power because of the winds that had gone through. Flight cancelled. Next flight today cancelled.
After we deplaned, the pilot told us we could pick up our luggage downstairs, and the attendant at the gate said to go to E35; perhaps she did not understand my question. I used the app to reschedule for late the next day—the first available—and we went down to baggage claim. No carousel E35. After waiting some Tim and looking for bags to appear, a number of us found the baggage claim clerk. No, we would not get our luggage. It was checked through to Santa Fe and would go in the next flight. This included the carryon. No change of clothes and no toiletries. . Fortunately, the airlines provided toiletries kits to get us through.
Now we needed to find a hotel. We called and made reservations and requested a shuttle. I also called the rental car country and updated our arrival time and time to pick up our rental car. An hour and two phone calls later the shuttle arrived.
Tired and hungry (only McDonalds breakfast sandwiches and an airline snack today), we had an UberEats delivery of Subway sandwiches and went to bed to the sound of airplanes taking off over our room every 5 minutes. Didn’t even phase us!
