Hi! I haven't updated this in quite a while, so I'm trying to think of whats happened...
I started work, thats the big news: The company that I work for is called South American Explorers, and is basically a resourse center for travelers. After 3 days of work, I am loving it. Everyone i work with is awesome, they are all pretty young, and from all over, mostly english speaking countries. there are I think 7 other people who are doing unpaid internshis like me, and then our director Lucy who is great, and the assistant director Kate who is also really cool. I found out more about my specific duties... 'travel research writer' doesn't neccesarily mean traveling... But its ok. One of the resources my company offers are these things called info sheets which are posted on our website and there are also hard copies in the library. The info sheets are on any topic under the sun about traveling in south america, for example: tango shows in Buenos Aires, horseback riding in peru, skiing in patagonia, how to use long distance bus travel, how to travel with kids, visa info. the list is huge... so we have probably 2-300 of these written already about different topics, but we also have a huge list of things members have requested we write about, or things we think are important. So, i choose a topic and pretty much research the hell out of it and do a big write up on it that will be available for the members. Each one takes about 1 or 2 weeks to do, so they are pretty in depth. Does that make any sense? Another cool thing is that Lonely Planet comes by every couple of months and we grant them access to our info sheets and then they use our info in their books. So some of the stuff i write about could be used by lonely planet, cool huh? The other thing that I'm really excited about, is my boss, Lucy, is a writer too, and she writes for 3 or 4 magazines in Argentina. She said her editors are always looking for contributing writers, so she is going to pass my info on to her editors, and get me hooked up with them. She said that she also did this for the last girl who had my job, and she got 2 articles published! I think that would be really cool, so hopefully something will work out! I feel like this is the perfect place for me to be right now, i'm really happy.
I have still been spending quite a bit of time with my friend Matt from Missoula, and I have met some really cool people through him. I have also been hanging out with my coworkers, who are really fun.
I am all moved into my apartment (as you can see from the photo) and that is working out great. Its nice and quiet, and clean and comfortable. So, I feel lucky.
Other than that I don't have much to report, but I'll keep you posted. Thanks for all the messages, I love hearing from all of you!
