Douglas Brown's Travels
Day 20 I had a good sleep in and went down to breakfast at 9am. The last of the tour group had left on early flights this morning so I had no suggestions as to what to do today. A truly free day. After breakfast I returned to my room did a little washing and spent the rest of the morning organising my photos and catching up on the blog. About 1:30pm I walked into the centre of the city. Stopping at NAMA a large department store on the way. Inside NAMA I felt like i was wandering around "DAVID JONES" store, even the staff uniforms were the same. As per DJ's the first counters you came to when you entered the store were the makeup and perfume counter with over makeuped attendants spraying samplers on every wrist that stopped. The seating position on The GS meant that there was a gap between the hem of my trousers and the top of my boots. This became uncomfortable when in the high mountain passes. So I decided that a pair of climbing gators would solve the problem. From my previous wander through the Southern end of the city, I knew that I would most likely find a climbing shop there. Sure enough I found a climbing shop called Annapurna Way. For 30 euro I now was a proud owner of knee high gators. A little taller than I had been looking for, but the only ones that would fit around my "tree stump" calfs. At least they would help keep my knees warm. I then wandered back to the centre of town taking small video clips with my GoPro. A latte and a beer were now called for and I sat at the central square enjoying both. Food and drink is certainly cheap here as a mug of latte and a large pot of beer cost me 5.80 euro (A$8.50) I did not take the direct route back to my hotel and instead explored some more side streets. eventually I realised that I had over shot my hotel street, so I pressed my iphone maps into action to gide me the 200 meters back to the hotel. After watching the world news on TV and doing some more work on my blog, I began to feel hungry. Looking at my watch I realised that it was 7:30pm so I set off to find somewhere to eat. I had only walked one block from my hotel and I came across "Curry Life Figovec" boasting 70 dishes of chicken, beef, lamb and sefood. http://currylife-figovec.si/index_en.ph p It was the most delicious curry meal that I have ever had and they also get 10 marks for presentation. I started with Onion bhaji then had Gosht Kadai, beef curry with a garlic naan.
