Douglas Brown's Travels
Day 19 It was good to get dressed in shorts, polo shirt and Merrells to head down to breakfast instead of riding gear. Steve, Olga, James and Thomas had left at 4am. However the rest of the crew were there for breakfast. Rita had hired her bike for an additional two weeks and was heading off after breakfast for some solo riding to Venice. Jose and Beth were leaving early Tuesday for Milan. The group of Ausiess were heading to Italy by bus. Esther was flying out for Aus early Tuesday morning. Over breakfast I organised to share a taxi with Beth and Jose to a motorcycle accessory shop approx 5 km away. I also arranged to meet Esther in the lobby at 7pm for a walk int the city for a meal. After breakfast I returned to my room to book my travel to Milan on Thursday. The Australians were using a low cost bus service called Goopti Http://www.goopti.com which also had be recommended as good value by Adriatic Mototours. So by 10:15am I was all booked on the bus for Thursday. I met Jose and Beth in the lobby and we set off by taxi to MC Motorcycles. The price of riding gear in Slovinia is about half that in Australia. If I had the luggage room I could have bought a new jacket, boots, gloves and riding socks for less than the jacket would have cost me at home. My shopping list included two items a balaclava and gators. I managed to find a great balaclava with a wind bib for 29 euro. However, no gators. Beth was in pain with her knee, so when we left the bike shop we headed for BTC City a large shopping precinct with several large shopping malls. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/BTC_Cit y This is truly a city within a city and makes Garden City, Karrinyup Shopping Centre and Galleria Morley look like corner stores. After finding the chemist we went looking for lunch and came across "Al Capone's Pizzeria". Beth and Jose being from Chicago were keen to compare Pizza with those from home. The Pizza was delicious, I cant say the same for the coffee. We then called a taxi which dropped me at our hotel while Beth and Jose continued on into the city. I retired to my room and caught up with emails and did some online banking before having a shower and getting ready for dinner. I met Esther in the lobby and we set off for the city by foot. When we reached the city it was alive and we decided to wander the street for a while before finding somewhere to eat. This was a wise move as we had both experienced the city individually and been on different guided tours. So as we walked we related different facts about the city to each other and detoured to see sites. We eventually found ourselves at the same resturant that our group had eaten at the night before. After another delicious meal we set off to see more of the city and slowly make our way back to the hotel. On the way se passed a building that Esther recognised as containing a roof top bar which her group had drunk at the night before. It is the tallest building in Ljubljana and the 12th floor terrace bar offers 360 degree views over Ljubljana. However, as we sat there drinking our drinks and admiring the view, it started to rain and we were forced to move inside from the terrace. By now it was 11:30pm and Esther had an early flight so we headed straight back to the hotel and said our good byes.
