Day 5 - Day 4 of the House Build
The day started at the building site in true Brookfield fashion. Work commenced at 7.30 am sharp at a speed akin to a cheetah on the hunt.Mortar mix masters Wayne, Nigel, Jen and Mary did their upmost to break the mixing record for moving in a circular motion mixing mortar (Pete Tong shaking in his Wellies).
Nick (aka Stumpy) Humble, Richard (aka Sheep-head) Batts, Matt (aka Tard) Pooley and George (aka Suggs) Amy had the ultimate pleasure of loading out a further 250 blocks in the blazing African heat (38 degrees).
Task master and local Zulu building chief Baba Elliot (BE) did his damdest to break the team's spirit by critically analysing our works and procedures. However, everybody rose to the challenge with true consummate professionalism which resulted in a very productive and satisfactory day.
Elsewhere the GGA children were being piled into a 4 by 4 for the school run.Sarah in the front with two children on her lap and Anne squeezed in the back with numerous children clambering for attention, even the boot was full with teachers and children keen for a lift to school. Then just when we thought that was it there always seemed to be room for one more so by the time we arrived the vehicle had thoroughly exceeded its capacity by about a dozen children.
Before starting lessons the children had the chance to use up some energy in the playground with Anne and Sarah helping to entertain them.Classes began at 9 and then they separated into different classes.Sarah went into a class for 3 year olds and was quickly promoted from onlooker to teacher when the regular teacher had to tend to her sick baby.Anne was in the 5-6 year old class and overlooked the children singing and listening carefully to the teacher. They were very good considering it was their last day at school and having a couple of new faces around school.
