Thought it was about time I updated this blog - we have been very lazy!! We have been helping Sheila and Mike with the packing up of their belongings ready for storage. They were hoping to get a storage unit in the middle of January but unfortunately it will not now be until the beginning of February, after we have left, so at the moment the garage is full of boxes ready to move.
Mike finishes work on 15 February - the house is being advertised for rent and they have had quite a lot of interest so far.
Last Saturday evening we all went over to Frank and Denise's house for dinner. They live on the North Shore of Auckland overlooking Browns Bay and out over towards Rangitoto. We saw Auckland from a different angle. We had a really lovely evening.
On Tuesday morning Sheila took us over to Jane and Mac's for coffee. I knew Jane and her parents from when I was a child and also Mac went to the same school as Sheila and I (West Bridgford High) so it was good to catch up with them. They have a lovely bungalow over at Albany (again on the North Shore). Sorry they do not call them bungalow's here - they are 1 storey houses!!
Last night we all went on the "Rainforest Express". This is actually a tramway that was built when the Upper Nihotupu Dam was being built. If you look at our photos you will see what we went on. It took about 1 hour to get up to the base of the Dam going through 10 tunnels. We stopped at Seaver Camp Picnic Site for our meal (everyone took their own food and there was a BBQ if you wanted - we took at chickhen salad, etc). We then left for the return journey about 8.30 pm, by which time it was getting dark. We saw the glow-worms in the tunnels, it was just like going through space, absolutely amazing sight. We got back to Jacobsons Depot about 9.45 pm after a really different evening and the weather was perfect.
Today we are again helping Sheila and Mike sort out the packing and tomorrow is New Zealand Anniversary Day (a Bank Holiday) and we have all been invited up to Val and Francis's farm for lunch.
