BradnDad2014
After a late start, another sunny day found us heading towards the USS Intrepid. An aircraft carrier built in 1943 and decommissioned in the late 70', Intrepid now forms the basis of a Maritime Museum in New York. Located at Pier 86 (I don’t know how we missed it yesterday), we had to get off the subway at 42nd street and walk towards the river.
Since we arrived in the US, Brad has been searching for the opportunity to test out a "Double Double Quarter Pounder = One Pound)"from McDonalds. As we are winding down our last days here, we decided we should give it a go today.
See the photo’s attached, we waddled out of the place…
Strolling further along 42nd street, we came across a hive of activity on 9th Avenue.
Known as the 9th Avenue markets (original), there was every conceivable cuisine you could think of available, the aroma from the market stalls was delicious… And we had just ruined our appetites on a damn McDonalds burger…
Immersing ourselves in the carnival atmosphere, we picked up a few souvenirs and nic-nacs as we went along. Who could refuse deep fried Oreo’s ?? Not us…
The markets went on and on. By the time we reached the other end, a few calculations later, we decided we wouldn’t have enough time to look around Intrepid and still make it in time for the Ball Game.
After cancelling the game on Friday night, the Yankee’s were playing a double header, starting at 1.00pm today. We wouldn’t make the first game, but wanted to be there for the start of the second. What a fiasco !!
I won’t bore you with all of the details, but the Yankee’s really should look at the way they treat their customers. The tickets we had for the Friday night game cost $290.00 ($145.00 each),on line. They cancelled the game, then wanted us to pay an extra $60.00 for the same seats, as the tickets to Sunday’s game were more expensive…. Hang on ! $350.00 to watch a game of Baseball ??
We had limited options as we were leaving the country before the next game and there are NO Refunds….
What a crock…
We watched the game from lesser seats as I simply refused to pay any more on principle.
Probably the most annoying fact is that our original seat allocation, and most of the grand stand was empty... I received an automatic email the next day asking for feedback from the fans… They got both barrels!!
