This morning Fabian gave all of the students a lay in, but he did then wake them up by using a chain saw in their longhouse. After a breakfast of porridge all of Alfonso's family said goodbye and we set off for Bongkud which is twenty minute drive.
When we arrive Eve the camp managers gives us an introduction to life at Bongkud, there are four camps volunteers here Elly, Sharmane, Lucy and Tom there is a message wall so we all made envelopes so we can send messages to each other, I thought that was quite nice. Lunch was chicken and rice, there is a camp shop here to buy drinks, clothes etc Sabrina and I had a yummy flapjack.
After lunch we started project work, we are making a cement pavement for the children to walk to school as at the moment they have to walk on the road. As we always do we bought the rain to Bongkud.
Tonight's tea was spagboll, it was nice, but still not as good as Gaya. This is quite a big camp with several school groups, so here we serve the food, help prepare washing up bowls etc, its quite good giving the pupils jobs.
After tea we had a welcome dance, some girls from the village performed a traditional dance while some men played the drums, the village chief Bindang also came and spoke to us, he was clearly nervous speaking English. Sabrina and I joined in the the dance, it is so hard, you have to dance between several bamboo trunks that two of the girls are moving in and out, so if you aren't quick enough your ankles are trapped. Two teams are leaving tonight and performed a leaving dance, we then realise we will be performing a leaving dance.
