Oh i forgot to mention in the last blog about the fact James & Me had booked a whole day of snorkelling for… today.
So today we are snorkelling!
We had to be up at 5am as first of all we were going shark diving…hmmmm
So we had to meet at the dive shop for 6am, this was very painful!
We were supposed to be waiting for 3 more people but it kept getting later and later, eventually 2 of them turned up looking rather sorry for themselves (obviously still drunk from last night) Anyway they carried on and we all made our way to the boat.
This was a good time to come out actually as we managed to see the sunrise!! We have been travelling for 3 months and never actually been up early enough to see the sunrise, seen plenty of sunsets though!
It was amazing! So different to a sunset, it was beautiful and so bright!!
So after the sun was in the sky the boat stopped and this was our time to get off…into shark infested water!
Luckily we were only swimming with Black Tip Reef Sharks but it didn't make it any less scary, and they can get pretty big!!
As i haven't really been snorkelling that much before i was still getting used to it, i jumped into the water, ducked my head under and took in so much water! I did it again… and again… This was definitely not human error, i had a hole in my snorkel. Brilliant!
But the guide soon got it changed for me and we were all on our way to hunt for sharks.
The first time we saw one the guide signalled for us all to stop and stay still, which is easier said than done when theres a current but still…
And there they were 3 sharks just leisurely swimming past us, creepy. Especially because when they went not that far away from you and you could no longer see them it was abit worrying.
Not too long into the hunt one of the girls we were with started to feel sick so when back to the boat, result and she was splashing around alot!
We saw lots of sharks whilst we were out, however kept getting told off for moving when they came near (i literally couldn't help myself) I felt an impulse that told me to stay as far away as possible haha
Brake time and i really needed a wee…. So the guide instructed me to take my wetsuit down to my knees and wee in the sea (obviously) apart from i had an audience which was a little off putting.
Once the shark adventure was over we headed back to the boat and to land.
We had about 3 hours break for food and stuff until we were going to head back out and this time it was just me and James and the instructor as no one else had signed up so that was pretty cool.
We were going to head out to about 4 different spots which were all good for snorkelling.
Viking Cave, Pi Leh Lagoon, Loh Samah Bay and Maya Bay.
The first stop was pretty freaky, it was like next to a big wall in the middle of the ocean, it wasn't very shallow but we were at the shallowest bit and if you looked out to your right you just saw darkness which freaked me out ALOT.
But we saw loads of fish down there, octopuses and squid too!
Then we stopped of Maya Bay, it was packed! James & Me had already decided not to take a day tour here and apparently it just gets so busy so we boated up instead and had a snorkel around, seeing a few sharks again!
Then we went past viking cave which was weird, these Thai people literally live inside this cliff face and there job is to hunt for birds nests to sell to the Chinese to make that birds nest soup…
We stopped shortly after at Pi Leh Lagoon, this was amazing and so peaceful!
The water was so blue. We weren't snorkelling here we'd just stopped for a rest, to have a swim and eat some watermelon.
James jumped off the boat first and then somehow convinced me to do the same thing (i hate jumping off boats) but i did and i am very proud of myself!
We floated about in the water for abit but the whole time i couldn't help but wonder was underneath me, all this snorkelling had messed with my brain haha
The last stop was like the first one, i was feeling abit sick anyway and the fact we had just been discussing shark attacks but me off the idea of going back in the water, so i bailed but James soldiered on and went down with the instructor.
And he couldn't resist to tell me it was the best snorkel yet! Damn it…
After 4 long hours plus the morning snorkel we were exhausted and couldn't wait to get back!
We went out for dinner at Annas Restaurant which sold really nice Thai food and i started to feel VERY tired so we headed back for a very early night.
