We decided to come to the UK after all. We were here for 6 weeks a few years ago, and we decided we had seen enough of the kingdom. But, happily, we met enough people from the UK travelling in the Americas, who we were able to vist.
So we flew for $0 plus taxes from Barcelona to London airport, and caught a bus straight to Rugby (or the village of Stretton-under-Fosse actually),where our diving mate Toby lives. Toby took us around the area, and we went to the museum in town where they make Rugby balls. The game was also actually invented here. We also saw Kennilworth Castle for the first time.
We'd told Toby that we'd never seen a badger before, and it would be good if we could see one. He quickly delivered by not only finding one, but also inadvertantly running over it a couple of times with his car. He was also good enough to take us rock climbing and to the movies.
We spent a couple of nights in Stratford-upon-Avon which is where Brian our mate from home is playing cricket. We watched them play a close match against Dorridge which ended up being a losing draw to the Stratford Panthers.
Then we made our way down south (with Toby's parents actually) to Devon, where our mate that we met in Brazil, Justin, lives. The town is called Bovey Tracey, and is in Englands biggest National Park, Dartmoor. We got drenched on the Moors in Dartmoor, went to the beach (sort of), and ate lots of pizza. Justin has 2 collie crosses that rule the house. We also had a try of Authentic English cream tea, which turns out to be just the trick for warming up after you've wrung out your socks and washed the wet dog smell off your hands after being on the moors.
After Bovey Tracey, we caught a train to London where we paid 44 pound for Saturday nights accomodation, and then 13 pound for Sunday night. Just because it was saturday night. Anyway, we met up with Toby for the beer festival in London, for a few hours, and we helped him and his mate Tom rank beers from around the British Isles. Again we'd seen London before, and didn't have any huge plans of doing a big city tour, but on Sunday we did go to the science museum which was good. We had KFC for lunch which was significant only because they don't have Mountain Dew, and when I asked them, the reply was ¨we don't do milk¨.
On monday morning,we got up, caught the tube to heathrow and got on our flight to Copenhagen, Denmark. Don't ever, ever, ever wear your watch through the metal detector at Heathrow Airport. Dave did, and instead of letting him walk back through, they frisked him. And it was very thorough.
