The day started out somewhat yucky..but ended calmly for me.
The unfair treatment from Womantours continued this morning. Those of us at the inferior accommodations were to wait in the dark lodge with crappy food and bad coffee (after our night in the camp-style bunk beds...with 6 of us sharing two bathrooms- one that had a door, and the other that had a curtain for the toilet). I imagine that the rest of the group got served pleasant b&b food that might have included eggs, better coffee, and waited for their service in a pretty bright room.
Anyway, karina and I left instead if waiting, and I had a nice breakfast at FAIRhaven. It felt good to take care of myself. The first few folks that zipped by were ALSO tenants of the lodge. Surprise!!
The route was moderatly hilly- through orchards and farms and small towns. Only 67 miles, and I took it at a fast clip. Now that I only have a few rides left- I figure I may as well push pretty hard. I dont need to save my energy any more. It was a nice ride.
I'm in Pulaski, and got here surprised that neither Michelle nor Womantours had returned my calls from last night. I'd made it quite clear that I was angry with the unfair treatment and expected the company to do something to make it right. I guess their policy is just to avoid discussing difficult things and hope they go away.
Chilled out a bit at the hotel , and then karina and I went to get ice cream. It was quite good, and we also saw some Amish folks doing their thing. This cheese store on a corner didn't look like much ... But man oh man keep an eye out for colosse cheese. 10 year sharp cheddar, and many increments up to that. Yum!!
I'm sitting in a light rain looking out at this river. I guess salmon come here all the way from the atlanti ocean. Neat!
I'm lookingforward to a few more great days of riding, and not expecting much from Womantours. I think they pick their favorites--- and it's clear that is not me. I'll definitely look into doing self- supported bike tours in the future. A lady we met at breakfast seemed to indicate it's a great way to do lots of trips!!
UPDATE: I wandered through town more. I got more info about the salmon they live in the lake- not the ocean. The people of Pulaski were out in force this evening. All having friends and family over for outdoor grilling and eating in preparation for their parade. I didn't see the parade since it was at 6pm...dinner time. A nice town vibe!
