We got up Wednesday morning to a fresh breakfast and laid by the pool until we needed to leave for the marina. My cold was in full effect but I still pushed to get out and make an adventure out of the day. The drive out was nice and chill. The beach town was lively. It had many shops that looked modern like any beach town in America. We struggled to find the right marina but eventually found the blue gates to enter.
We boarded the fishing boat and two guys greeted us. They were very welcoming and fun to chat with. We were all a little traumatized from the Sierpe situation but trusted that this boat had more power and control. We were right. Plus we did not need to cross a river to the ocean. We drove out a ways before we slowed down to catch bait fish. The guides were putting in a line with multiple hooks and catching several bait fish in one cast. Above us were all sorts of birds dive bombing in to the water picking out little fish. It was a really interesting process.
TJ started off fishing during the bait fish break. Then Dave, Derrick, and then the ladies. The day was perfect. It was hot but somewhat overcast. The sun was out but not enough to fry all of us. Everyone was able to catch some good sized jack fish. We released all of them because the jack fish supposedly tasted bad, plus we were there for dinner. Finally after several jack fish, Derrick caught a barracuda. The fight out of the water was tough and long. All of these fish fight so hard. When he got the barracuda up, one of the guides hooked it right in the gut but it was still kicking. It continued to fight even after we put it in the storage compartment in the back of the boat. The fish was flapping around so hard that it was lifting the lid up and down. We continued fishing for bigger fish. Dave had a big fish on the hook but eventually took the hook and line with it. I had several bites from a pretty big fish but it took half of my bait fish in one bite. So with several jack fish on the line and a barracuda, we headed back to the dock. We had dinner. Mission accomplished!
The barracuda was an awesome story and gloating worthy for Derrick. Edith made barracuda tacos for dinner and it was delicious. After dinner, we hung out at the pool again...surprise surprise. I turned in early because my cold was in full swing. Another awesome day in the books.
