Friday morning we laid low since we had sunset horseback riding on the beach to look forward to. We got up early to hike up to the gazebo. Derrick had been trying for a few days but either went the wrong route or didn't get all the way to the top because he was almost attacked by wild pigs. So we were determined to see it before we left. The trail was hard to see but once we knew where it turned off from the road we were golden. The trail was pretty steep, and covered with leaves. There was a really old bridge that we had to cross one by one. There were definitely a few times where I worried about stepping on a snake, or falling down the trail but when we made it through all of those obstacles, the view was glorious. We sat up there and enjoyed the breeze, nature's noises, and panoramic views of the ocean and jungle.
We got back to the house and hung out by the pool and chatted with friends until we had to leave for the ranch.
As we were preparing to get on the horses, it started raining. The hope was that the rain would let up but it continued to downpour. My horses name was Salsicha and Dave's was Ceviche. We got on the horses and started walking through the jungle. The terrain was rough, we walked over several rocky areas, long grass, and streams. There was a brush area with low trees. WIth the rain, that tunnel area was flooded. It was actually a really interesting spot but tough to see with all the water running over my face. Once we cleared the trees, we arrived at the beach front. It was raining even harder. Here is where the guides would let us run the horses. With how stubborn Salsicha was, I didn't feel comfortable running the horse. All the runners went to the right, the walkers went to the left side of the beach. It had started raining so hard that I couldn't keep my eyes open. The guide would take us to and from the water. Salsicha felt the need to grab a drink of water in the ocean. He yanked his head down and almost pulled me with him. I knew I couldn't trust him. The rain died down and everyone was surrounded by bugs. They were attracted to the horses but that meant us too. All I could do was try to trot the horses enough to keep the bugs away. The walking group continued to down the beach while waiting for the running group to come back. When they ran back to meet us, I was a little sad that I didn't get the chance to run the horses. Then we heard about Linda falling off her horse. Thank goodness she was ok but that was quite the ride. Dave's foot strap snapped on the run down. The guide gave his to Dave but then his foot slipped out on the run back. The horses were so opened up to run that they started racing each other. It was a thrill for everyone to run the horses that fast but scary to feel so uncontrollable. The walk back to the ranch was quiet but smooth. At that point, everyone was ready to get back. Night was setting in and the thunder and lighting started. Good thing the horses were not too bothered by it. As we were walking through the jungle in the dark, you could clearly see all the light bugs. It was really pretty to see the bugs light up the pathway. When we arrived at the ranch, there was fresh banana bread and juice waiting to wind down from the action packed ride.
We all quickly showered and drove back to Uvita for dinner. We went to a really cute italian restaurant for dinner and enjoyed fresh blended pina colada's. We headed back to the house to wrap up a fun last night in Dominical.
