Bet Bet's adventures abroad
Well, this entry is dedicated to my Dad, because he told me to write about my london exploring. I haven\'t really talked about London before because it doesn\'t really seem like a holiday since I live here, but I guess it\'s still doing stuff.
On weekends 18-19 and 25-26 March, I wandered around various places in London.
One of my favourite things to do is walk from my house in Shepherd\'s Bush to the South Bank of the Thames (or Buckingham Palace, if I\'m feeling a bit lazy), which takes about 2 - 2.5 hours and mostly consists of Kensington Gardens/Hyde Park. I absolutely love Hyde Park and is one of my favourite places to go, mostly because it\'s right in the middle of this huge city and is so peaceful and beautiful. I have seen 3 seasons of it now, and spring is even more beautiful than winter because there are daffodils and little purple flowers in sporadic patches ALL over the park, and they\'re SO beautiful. The Hyde Park bit takes about 45 minutes because it\'s massive, and sometimes I get distracted by things like the Serpentine, which is the lake that runs through the middle and is home to so many ducks and birds. You\'ll all be relieved to know the squirrels are back from their winter hiding and are back scabbing for food and fighting each other. They\'re still cute though. AND there\'s rabbits as well now, so there\'s quite an abundance of wildlife.
At Hyde Park Corner is the Wellington Arch, which I also love and seem to take photos of everytime I walk past. I should stop that now, since there\'s only so many angles...
And then Green Park is after that and then Buckingham Palace, which would be a really nice place to hang out if there wasn\'t always TONS of people there.
South Bank is also great and has many interesting things like Southwark Cathedral, Shakespeare\'s Globe and Tate . There is also a funny part of it where a huge theatre or dance building overhangs the walkway, and underneath is a skate park which is always really busy and full of little skater boys, right in the middle of a very touristy area. I think you have to see it to see why it\'s funny...
Anyway, 2 weeks ago I explored a part of the south bank I had never been, and there was so much stuff! There was a Battle of Britain memorial that was really sad, and then further along a huge obelisk and a couple of egyptian sphynx and it was really random and I can\'t believe I have never seen it before from the other side of the Thames, because they\'re huge. Anyway, then I walked up to Fleet St and there was a McDonalds right next to a sign that said Fleet St, and in the window was a poster that said \"Play Monopoly for Real\" and it was funny. I saw Somerset House which was really interesting but I didn\'t really have time to see the exhibitions. I saw Australia House and THEN I saw the Royal Courts of Justice which are HUGE and amazing!! The buildings are so beautiful and i took many photos. So, I will now go and download some photos of these little London outings so you can see I am being very productive with my camera.
