Bet Bet's adventures abroad
Okay, firstly, the picture has nothing to do with this trip, so I will just have to upload some when I get home.
There is no secondly, so I will now tell you about Wales.
Sophie and I headed to Cardiff early Saturday morning. After missing the train by about 30 seconds (stupid on-time rail network!), we sat at Paddington and had a coffee, before beginning the 2 hour ride to Cardiff. Which, by the way, is in a WHOLE other country. Unfortunately you don't need your passport to get there....
We arrived at lunch time, so therefore had lunch at Orleans something...where we shared a vego fahita stack, which was YUMMY. Then we paid for our meal, put on our jackets and I think opened the door on the way out...okay that bit was a joke, but I realised too much detail was boring. Sorry.
So, we headed to our very classy hotel (made particularly special by having it's very own night club!!), which was the only one available due to a big soccer game, and checked in.
Then we caught a little boat from the hotel down to Mermaid Quays which was a really beautiful little part of Cardiff right on the edge of the harbour, kind of like Manly actually...But it was really pretty and we saw the church where Roald Dahl was baptised. Yeah, I know!
While we were there a big storm went right around us, and the sky was SO dark grey and scary, it was such a fantastic atmosphere!
Then we headed back to Cardiff to get ready to hit the town. For dinner. We walked around for about 1.5 hours because we both wanted Indian and were determined to have it. When, after 2 sets of directions, we finally found the ONLY Indian restaurant in Cardiff, we faced a 45 minute wait so decided to give in and have Indonesian. Which was still nice. But not Indian. Then we had a few drinks at various places and saw some pretty special people, I think due to the fact that the football game was on and it had attracted a lot of interesting people...
On Sunday we hit the town again, but didn't realise the game was on, and all the streets were closed and people were EVERYWHERE and it seemed like everyone had those lovely air horns and were blowing them all up the streets. It was manic, and such a buzzing atmosphere. We did a tour of the castle, which was really good and the tour guide was really interesting to listen to so that made it better. We were almost blown off the top of the tower in the middle because it was SO unbelivable windy. We'd be standing in the street and just be pushed by these huge gusts of wind, it was really amazing how strong it was!!After the Castle we saw the City hall and another couple of buildings which were amazing and I just wanted to lie on the big grassy bit in front of them, except the ground was damp. And I probably wouldn't have ever got up. We had a bit more of a wander around and then headed home at about 5 after the footy (I don't know why i keep calling it that, because it's actually soccer) had finished and all the mayhem had disappeared into the pubs.
It was a cool little city and interesting because it was so scattered and everything was everywhere. Random...but it made exploring interesting!
So, I will go home tonight and upload some pictures of the lovely Cardiff so you can see it. Guess why I can't do it now? Because I'm at 'work' :)
