Puerto Vallarta!
Land of americans on spring break.
After a never ending bus journey and a slight worry about where exactly we were going to sleep that night, we talked to some people on the bus from the station into town, and they showed us where their hotel was, and we managed to get a room for the next two nights.
We dumped our stuff, had a shower and stuff to get rid of all the San Blas sand, and then went for a wander around the Zona Romantica where our hotel was. It was't romantic, there just weren't any dock off holiday complexes. But we found an amazing tacos al pastor (like, healthier kebabs, lamb and pinapple and veg and stuff) stand, and then we got ready to go out for the evening. We wandered along the front past all the freaky amusing statues and had pictures taken doing strange poses, before we found somewhere that wasn't like 500 pesos to get in and had a night of dancing and nothing else cos the drinks were too expensive. There were loads of americans around, but we also bumped into some auzzies and an english guy. We wandered back and got more street burritos of a hilarious old mexican lady who was taking the mick out of the americans eating off her stall and talked away to us in spanish whilst the american guys drunkenly told us how hot our english accents were.
In the morning, after a mega lie in, we went to the beach! Had about an hour a peace and quiet with the odd (well, about 30 different people) person trying to sell us stuff, before a band started doing their thing. We tried to swim, but the waves were harsh, and there were a few close misses with bikini bottoms going astray. It was also very amusing (to me anyway) to hear all the americans paying full price for all the WAY overpriced food and stuff on the beach, and speaking really crappy spanish that was mostly english anyway. After that, we showered again and headed off to a bull fight out of the centre. It was bizzare. Having done it to death in spanish lessons, I knew what was going to happen next, and it wasn't very shocking, but we only stayed to see 3 out of the 4, cos the others got upset.
After that, we got ready to go out, and arrived back home at about 5 in the morning.
Bearing in mind that some people had partied hard, and we had to be up for 7 the next morning to catch a boat tour we had booked, we panicked a bit when we overslept, but we managed to sweet talk the tour guy into letting us on the later boat. Plus, at that time, we weren't sure that we could have our room for another night, (it turned out we could). The boat tour was alright, but if we'd had paid full price for it, I think we would have been very annoyed. We knocked it down from something crazy like 550 pesos to about 250. Just goes to show a little spanish goes a long way.
We went snorkelling, to some waterfall things (we had to walk a bit to close to a large number of horses for my liking, and in flipflops) and to a beach and then back to vallarta. Food and drinks included. Oh, and irritating tour guide and dodgy music.
We said goodbye to Kerry who had to get back, and then went round walmart for some snacks. We ate top notch sweetcorn and some agua de horchata, then watched a film with doritos.
In the morning, we had a sunbathe, and then got the bus to Manzanillo......
