Hi everyone! only a quick blog because im off job hunting again today. I had an interview on friday for two jobs, one was a sales and marketing job and one was for a little coffee shop. I got a call back from the sales and marketing one almost straightaway offering me a second interview! The second interview was more like a day shadowing someone else in the company and just to see how it worked. at the end of the day we had a short interview and out of 8 people they offered me the job! The boss man, andy, said i was a bright, fun and confident young woman! (he obviously hasnt seen me on a bad day!) but after much consideration i decided to turn it down. it might seem silly to a lot of people but im only here for a short time and i dont want to be stuck in an office for 45/50 hours a week when i could be out sightseeing or something. the money was ok but the job itself was tough and was a very pushy kind of sales job and thats just not me. so I'm off job- hunting again today. there are so many shops on the beach front looking for staff so hopefully I'll be ok!
So what else have i been up to?! We had a flat warming party on friday night after we'd moved in on thursday. it did take a bit of cleaning to get it looking nice but its lovely. We're having such a blast living there and the whole building is fed up with us already cos all they can hear is raucous laughter and screaming all the time! its been so long since i laughed so hard that my stomach hurt and i cried with laughter but it seems to be happening everyday with these crazy girls! kirsty ran down the corridor the other day and tripped over the clothes horse and broke it in half, its doesnt sound that funny but when katie laughs, its the funniest thing you've ever heard and you can;t breathe because you're laughing so hard!! anytime anyones on the floor in our flat it turns into a pile on and the amount of brusies i have on my legs, arms and everything else is crazy. I've become known as bruiser!
We've been food shopping quite a lot as well but its so different to shopping in england. they call sausgages, snags, they only have one type of milk (as opposed to the thousands of different ones they have in england) and they don't sell alcohol in the supermarkets for some strange reason. They have bottle shops here, like out off licences i guess, but cos all australians are lazy they shorten down quite a lot of their words. so for the bottle shop, they call it the bottleo, and they seem to say heaps devo a lot which means I'm very devastated! they also call flip flops, thongs which is strange too! we've learnt not to say flip flops anymore cos the aussies can spot the tourists a mile off.
The weather here is ok, not brilliant yet because its still their winter. The clocks go forward at the end of this month then it starts getting very very hot which i cant wait for. The temp at the moment is about 23/25 degrees. apparantly there was quite a bad storm last night but i slept staight through it which was good!
So since, we've moved in, its been parties and lots of laughs and fun times. We've all just bought kids duvet covers to go on the new duvets and pillows we've just bought. Kirsty has got fairies, sarahs got boats, katies got hippos or ponies or something and ive got this weird pink thing with lots of creepy looking cartoon people on it! but is all very colourful!
Living on the beach is just amazing and i still cant believ my eyes when i look out the window or look out from our roof terrace. we went for a run the other morning with the boys and on the way back went for a swim in the sea! It surprising how completely fearless ive become about everything. ive been going on boats and ferries, over bridges (the suspension bridge in hong kong was the biggest one in the world!), swimming in the sea, eating things you could only imagine AND im drinking beer!! if anyone is going off to do anything outrageous, im right there without even thinking about how scary it might be, its awesome! were planning on signing up for surf camp and the skydive quite soon, well as soon as we all find jobs! The local people are so friendly and you can just start up a conversation with them about anything and hang around chatting to them for ages. At our flat warming party on friday, we found this guy called jessie in our block looking for his friends in the flat opposite ours. his friends werent in so he came round for a few bottles of tooheys!! He was trying to teach us some aussie phrases but we just ended up laughing at him so he gave up! (he did teach us about heaps devo tho!!)
So as you can see, Im having an absolute blast. living with the girls is just like being back at uni and going to the beach every morning and having a swim to wake yourself up is unreal. The months i spent cleaning toilets and having to put up with nasty customers has definately been worth it! I'm having the time of my lfe and Ive only been here for 2 and a half weeks! theres so much more to come and Im so excited about the next bit of my trip!!
Lots love xxxxxxxxx
