We are back in the south of India visiting Jetson Edinbro who first met Jon when he was working in Weymouth and living in Portland with a Pais team. We are staying in a lovely serviced apartment that has such a beautifully soft bed that it was hard to get up this morning!
Jetson drove us around Chennai; I was surprised by the lack of rubbish on the streets and how cosmopolitan it is. There are many 5 star hotels, numerous malls and many bakeries. He gave us a choice of venue for lunch Chinese or South Indian, we choose the Hard Rock Cafe in the mall where it was cool and we got to eat beef, yum!
They are constructing a metro here so as usual the roads are congested. Our driver got stopped for a random breath test last night, of course it registered zero but he said that had he got caught drunk driving he would have paid a bribe/fine to the policeman who would have let him go!
Jetson's brother-Gerson is a well known worship leader so we are looking forward to hearing him play tonight at their church. Jon and I will share a few testimonies about our trip.
As it is so hot here, (about 104 and rising) we are taking a plane tomorrow to Valperai in the hills south of here where you don't need air con at night, oh bliss! It's a nature reserve where we might get to see tigers, leopards and even an elephant if we are lucky or not if we should encounter one on a foray into the forest!
We visited the cave where St Thomas hid from his accusers and St Thomas Mount where he died. The sign photographed was fixed to the wall of the little Catholic Church there!
