After a great 3 hour train ride to Chandigarh we were greeted by our hosts: Natasha and Minasha who own and run a bookshop called "Spread the Word."It's based in a residential area in Sector 21. The whole city is divided into sectors each with its own shops and housing. At first the idea of staying in a sector seemed quite Orwell like but in reality the roads and streets were the cleanest we've seen in India yet and we felt at home in the Western like areas.
Chandigarh is based in 2 states: Punjab and Harianya with a large Seikh population. Our hosts drove us around the local lake and we wandered around a magnificent Rock Garden. It was a huge area artfully made from recycled materials like oil cans, ceramics, used outlets and even bangles, bottle caps and human hair! It was a real surprise to behold a huge waterfall followed by a labyrinth of alley ways and tiny doors.
We ended the day at the local mall which rivalled any I've seen in California!
Natasha and Minesha have a heart to encourage their community and build family. It was a special time and a blessing for us to be there,
We are back to New Delhi today by train and we are staying at the YWCA before we fly to Mumbai tomorrow!
