G'day for the last time from Australia. Today is my last day in Australia and I am very sad! We are leaving in the morning to go to Singapore. We were supposed to be flying into Bangkok but we heard that there is a lot of trouble there at the moment so we went into the Qantas office and they advised us not to travel there. They said they could fly us to Singapore in the morning instead for no extra charge. We decided that we would do that, we did think about just going straight to Bangkok but we thought its best to be safe rather than sorry. We are staying there until Tuesday morning when we fly to Phon Phem which is in Cambodia. We are planning to stay there for 10 days possible 2 weeks and then have 2 weeks in Vietnam. After that we are hoping to travel through Laos and then back into Thailand.
At the weekend Me, Anita, Naomi and Rob went to a place called Tjapukai. This was a cultural place which tells you all about the Aboriginal culture. They did a few shows which showed us about their creation - dreamtime, music and food. They showed us how to throw a boomerang and we all had a go. Me and Anita were pretty much useless but Naomi's and Robs went really far and came back to them. For some reason we had our faces painted! We also painted our own boomerangs. I even had a go and while I was painting it I was thinking what am I doing! As most of you know me and the paintbrush do not mix! Anyway, I had a go and the boomerang turned out better than I thought, it is only a bit messy in the middle with a few smudges - but on the whole not too bad for me!
For the last few days we have been to Cape Tribulation, this is where the rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef. We were picked up from our hostel quite early in the morning and we headed to the Daintree River. There we went on a river cruise, the river has crocodiles in and we were lucky to see one! We also saw a snake hanging over the river from a branch. We then headed straight into Cape Tribulation. We checked into our hostel, we were actually staying in big jungle tents! We checked in and then headed straight down to the beach. We were unable to go into the sea as there could have been crocs! The weather in Cape Tribulation was very tropical, one minute it was sunshine and then it was raining! It was also very hot and humid and we were all very sticky! I just chilled on the free day that we had there, Anita and Naomi went sea kayaking and also went to a tropical fruit farm! The day we left we went jungle surfing, this is where you zip across the rainforest on a wire. On the last one we all went upside and let go! It was lots of fun! On our way back from Cape Tribulation we stopped off at the Alexandra Cliffs viewpoint, from here you could see the island that Steve Irwin died off. We then went to a place called Mossman Gorge, we were hoping to swim in the gorge but it had rained a lot so the river level was very high and too dangerous to swim in. We also went to Port Douglas, we didn't stay there for very long but we were able to have a wander around and see the old wharf!
I have tried to upload my photos to my blog but I cant get them on for some reason but I have been able to get a couple of albums on facebook though.
Well I think that's all for my last blog here in Australia. I think I can say for all of us that we have all had such an amazing time here and we will all be sad to leave. I don't think that I have a best part as while I have been here in Oz I have had the time of my life! One thing that I will not miss is encountering wildlife on the way to the showers - especially frogs! I have seen enough frogs here to last me a life time! Now off to the post office to post one final package home!
Will try and update in Asia when I can. x
