Hi everyone! I wrote this blog a while ago and couldn't post it, so I have saved it and here it is! Still no luck with photos!
Hi All! At the moment I am in Airlie Beach and am have only got a few minutes on the internet again. Well since my last post we have been to Fraser Island. We stayed at camp site which was right on the beach - we had to scout out the camping ground in the dark with torches to find a space as it was all sandy and we had to find a hard part. We eventually found a spot and then went down to the beach to look at the stars! It was magical!
In the morning we got up quite early to head to Fraser Island. We all had a fantastic day there. We had to go on a guided tour as we did not have enough time to do a self guided tour. We were hoping just to get a ferry across and then see the island at leisure but then we soon realised that was not possible as you need a 4 x 4 to get around the island so we had to go on a guided tour. We hoped to go a self guided tour but didnt have enough time to arrange it. The coached picked us up and it was a huge 4 x 4 coach, which could go on the beach. Our first stop was Lack Mackenzie which was just breathtaking. The water was so clear and we all had a little swim. On our way to the lake we saw a dingo on the beach. The guide said that on the whole island there is only 150 - 200 so we were lucky to see one. We also saw a wallaby on the beach too. We had a buffet at lunch which was included and you could help yourself. The boys took full advantage of this and filled both their plates heavily twice! We then saw a ship wreck on the beach and paddled in a beautiful creek. When we got back we took some chairs down to the beach and had a few drinks and watched the sun set. So far on every campsite there have been amenities - well this camp site only had long drop toilets with no lights, so my head torch was very useful!
We got up very early the next morning as we headed back to Tin Can Bay to feed the dolphins. We thought that they were fed at 7am but actually it was 8am. I just managed to wake up and went down there in my pjyamas. Me, Naomi and Anita fed them. They only let a few people in the water at once to feed them. It was amazing to fed them - apart from the fish being very smelly and slippery! Our next stop was to the Bundaberg Rum factory for Naomi, as she loves her rum. We then headed to the town of 1770, it was a very long drive and managed to have a quick look round.
Yesterday we had a very long journey to reach Airlie Beach- we covered 733kms! It was one long day! We spent the whole day in the van apart from the odd stop for fuel and food. I was first to take the wheel and I did not turn off the road for 180kms! All the roads are very long but the scenery is beautiful.
Today we just had a wander round Airlie Beach and went and sunbathed around the lagoon for the afternoon. In the morning we are off too the Whitsundays Island. We are going to Whitehaven beach, which is supposed to be the best, hopefully it will be. We are really looking forward to that.
We have only got a week left in the camper van, we are dropping it off at Cairns on Sunday and spending the rest of our time there before leaving for Thailand.
So far, there haven't been any murders in the van - surprisingly really due to the size of it and the amount of belongings we have all accumalted. I posted my didgeridoo back so there is a little bit more room.
I haven't been able to get any more pics up but will try again soon. Off to the Great Barrier Reef in the morning! x
