Yesterday we got up and out and headed near old town Estepona for the market. Not really sure exactly where it is but we lucked into it and parked. This was supposed to be the weekly town market so I was looking forward to lots of local fare. Unfortunately it was mostly tshirts and shoes and bags. Not as much interesting. But we found a good produce stand and filled up a bag. GIANT radishes, tomatoes and cucumber, olives.
Back to the supermarket and home for bbq lunch And a little poolside time. But in spite of the sun, a little too chilly so it was quick.
Today we met the cousin Tim (&Gill) of our good friend Rich (&Donna) who lives just a few minutes from here. Really nice people originally from UK, who teach at international schools near here. They showed us the little town next door San Pedro - took us to the old town and one of their little fave cafes that make FRESH churros and serve them with a sort of thick rich hot chocolate. Seriously. Amazing.
The length of San Pedro has the main highway now running under it In a tunnel and they've created a boulevard on top with 1.5km of walking & bike paths, playgrounds and open areas. Really cool. Spent hours down there with the kids playing and walking along. Then the beach front for late lunch and some wave jumping. Beautiful spot. Would stay there next time.
Tim & Gill gave us lots of good local info so tonight we made a list of all the things we want to do and Olivia filled in the calendar for the next week & half to make sure we fit it all in. Gibraltar, sand dunes, a whitewashed village full of public art, Ronda, Marbella, a bike ride, ice cream...
Tomorrow night we're going to one of the "processions" in Estepona for Semana Santa (Holy week). This is the biggest holiday of the year in Spain and there are nightly processions each night this week. Ive seen photos only so far, looking forward to experiencing it.
