2 days in Estepona and we honestly haven't gone far! First night we all woke up 5am to a crazy loud CRACK of thunder that felt like it was right over us. Then more lightning and thunder... And as we laid there awake we heard a gurgling sound coming from the bathroom. Hmmmm
A couple more gurgles and decided to investigate. Ugh. The torrential rain caused the sewer for this building to back up somehow. I don't know the details... But I do know was there was some funky smelling water now soaking the floor of the ensuite and creeping into the other bathroom too. Towels, mops... Blech. Did our best to clean it up, turned on the fan and closed the door. Later.
Monday was still rainy and storming on and off so we stuck close to home. No pool today. When the sun poked out we sat in the garden and soaked it up.
Dinner? Time to head to the SuperMercado 2 blocks away. Interesting experience. Was giggling to myself as I roamed up and down the aisles trying to find what I wanted or needed. Not that I really knew what I needed! I hadn't thought of how challenging it would be to grocery shop with the language difference. Tough to read ingredients, labels. I bought digestive biscuits instead of crackers, and couldn't find hot sauce. But I loved it. And they did have a fun selection of liquor and wine. French brut champagne for €13 - About $19. Vodka bottle for €4... $6.50
Potato chips easy to get, but tortilla chips not so much.
Still can't figure out what "cremas" is... A glass jar filled with different sauces.... Marinades? Pasta sauces?
First dinner cooked by us in Spain. Chicken, rice, and broccoli. Perfect :)
Maybe one day I'll learn to make some traditional tapas.
Today was Olivia's choice. We checked the pool. No one there. Walked to the beach. It's an ok beach but the seas were angry today... Big winds and cold. As we walked the path to the beach, passed a lady with 2 kids 5&6 yrs. Laura... from sevilla and after a good chat she offered her phone number to us to contact when we get there in a couple weeks. Perfect!
The sky got really dark, so up we got and into a beach bar just in time for crazy rain and HAIL. Seriously didn't we leave this kind of weather back in Van?
Good lunch and sangria. Back to apartment for afternoon. Watched outside change from sun to rain to sun to rain. Today is supposed to be the last of it. We'll see.
Tomorrow the town market in Estepona. Now THAT I'm excited about :)
Xo
PS- a few have mentioned and asked about the Brussels attack today. We haven't really heard much about it except on Internet but will see what is said tomorrow. Very sad. What was I just saying about security?!
