The drive to Seville was good for us, but the kids were not happy about the switch from the train. Apparently we should have consulted them first. "We can't get up and walk around in the car, and we can't get food either". Didn't matter that it was supposed to be cheaper, faster, good stops, etc.
And one stop was Cadiz. We had heard about this city being the oldest constantly inhabited city in Europe. It's on a tiny little peninsula in southwestern Spain. Almost an island. You can see bits of the old fort and the old walls. Gorgeous little historical centre of course. Church in the middle that was photo worthy.
And in the midst of it all we stumbled on a little place that was about the closest to European fast food we'd seen. (Other than McDs and Burger King, neither of which I consider anything close to European). You are supposed to grab a table where there is a massive menu of options of "Montaditos" or super cute mini baguette style sandwiches. Most are €1 and you can order several. Give them your name and sit down til they call your name a few minutes later... Voila. European fast food. Served on a proper plate with chips. Beer or "tinto de verana" summer wine mugs for €1.50. This place is awesome. And PACKED
On to Seville. Arrived to return car at train station. We were told the only extra fee we'd incur was a €50 drop charge since we had picked up in Malaga... But because we were 2 hours over our proper return time, we got hit with a late charge of over €120. A not much when our daily rate was less than €60. Hmmmmm.
Here we are Sevilla... It's a crazy busy city with small winding streets. Can driver tried to drop us at wrong spot. Good thing I had looked this place up on Google street view. Finally the right place. It's gorgeous. We look out at the famous Catedral de Sevilla. One of the most beautiful buildings we've ever seen. There are tapas bars, cafes & restaurants EVERYwhere around us. It's quite a scene. Looking forward to exploring. Not much food in our fridge so first day will be exploring for markets :)
This first night we stroll and find a restaurant... Prices look good, menu options good. We are thankful that Spanish law requires restaurant to post their menu outside with prices. So helpful.
In we go, sit down, and this is one of our first glimpses of Seville's very alive "bullfighting" traditions. The walls in here are lined with stuffed bulls heads. Jesse keeps asking "are those real"??? How to explain that one. Both kids have decided that they are NOT going to a bullfight. Agreed. And they've recently watched a movie called "the Book of Life" that includes bullfighting and a fighter who stands up for the Bulls. So there's that.
So excited to explore our new home for the next month.
