Round the world with ANA!
Our deepest apologies for the lack of contact since our last journal entry, but 3 days after our last update we were all rushed off to the local hospital where we work as a Ward Clerk (Nikki), Medical Administrative Assistant (Amy K) and a librarian (Amy B). As you can imagine since then our lives have become very busy and traumatic at times, with Nikki being placed in the centre of Intensive Care and the Amy's in Palliative care (death hospital!). The most traumatic part being the 6am get ups.
With only 3 weeks in Sydney we decided it was time to see what Sydney has to offer other than the beaches and boozers. First stop Sydney Aquarium and Tarronga Zoo, which proved much better than the Japanese version, particularly as Nemo and friends came to say hello! (See photos for further details!).
After 2 weeks of work we felt we deserved a treat and booked ourselves a last minute flight to Melbourne for the Easter weekend. Although initially this seemed like a good idea, the weekend didn't go quite as planned; partly due to the total lack of planning but mainly due to everything being closed for Easter (apart from Mac Donalds, which we visited 3 times in one day)....BUT we still made the most of it with a visit to the famous Ramsay Street! Riding around in the Neighbours bus, watching old episodes, listening to Kylie and Jason and getting all the gossip on future episodes (who's getting married, who's becoming a nun, and the killing off of one of our favorite characters) lifted our spirits and made us forget about the rain and slight lack of activities. On our return to the hostel our gambling friend Tom whisked us off to the casino where Amy B and Nikki got a little over excited with their winnings of $30; but somehow managed to lose that and a little more on the giant spinning wheel...oh well better luck next time. Later at the pool competition they won themselves a glass of wine each and a special certificate for the best losers. Then again the competition was tough for them- Round 1: Amy K and Gambling Tom, who were unfortunately knocked out at the semi-finals due to Amy K's last minute potting of the last colour and the black in the same shot. Otherwise we're sure they'd have been the overall winners.
The next morning the wine was still affecting the girls when they thought with the advice of Gambling Tom that the Kiddies Science Works museum would be an exciting adventure...and it certainly was. Giant Noughts and Crosses, weight lifting challenges and timed sprinting entertained us and the other kids around us for hours. On our return to the hostel we were given a free BBQ, followed by a free tram ride into town (or maybe we just couldn't work the ticket machine) and then free champagne all night long. Finally our luck was in and the loss on the giant wheel didn't seem so bad after all! The luck soon faded the next morning on our 13 hour coach journey back to Sydney sharing with Agatha, Anthea and Andrea. Three rather "special" characters! And now the lucks really back....back to sunny (well a little drizzly) Sydney!!
