Today was by far my favorite day in Paris. It began by catching the train to Versailles, which became a very lengthy process, as I was unable to find the station, and the teller at the metro was an utterly useless cow. I did however finally get there. My first impression of the palace Versailles was that it was gigantic, and grand on nearly every scale imaginable. As is the case with nearly everything in Paris, the signs were only in French, so I opted to purachse an Audioguide, after once again, not having to pay for my ticket. Everything about every room was incredible, the care and detail of the decor and the furnishings was evident in every piece. I saw the room where the Treaty of Versailles was signed, and having just completed Social 30, it made the event even more relevant. Mr. Anderson would be so proud. It took me a good two and a half hours to make it through the palace, and an additional two to go through the gardens, which I could have easily spent an entire day in. The best part of the visit though was going to the hamlet that Marie Antoinette had founded. I saw her living quarters, and heard the story of how she tried to escape her execution. The scene itself was very serene and I could have spent the afternoon there. I also happened to come across a family of Edmontonians while I was there. The weather was very foul when I left the Palace, and by the time that I arrived back at the train station, I was soaked. I had a nap before going out for supper, which was once again excellent. Tomorrow is my final day in Paris, and I plan to go out in style; shopping!
