So a 23 hour bus ride to Cambodia awaited me today, and I wasn't exactly looking forward to it.
My day at the hostel consisted of just chatting to people, eating food and lounging around before a bus came to pick me up at around 6ish.
Another guy from my hostel called Jakub from Vancouver was also gettin the bus down to Bangkok which was good to know someone on such a long journey. But no one else I spoke to was getting the connecting bus to Siem Reap which was annoying cause l didn't particularly want to cross the border on my own especially as most people I knew had been scammed out of money at the border.
Anyway, the organisation of the bus was just laughable. The Thai people really never seem to be in any rush, and the 6 o'clock bus was now still sat there at 630. Annoying!! Rest of the journey went okay though, well until I woke up in the early hours and we were stopped by some shop and for the next hour two guys and the driver seemed to be working on the bus, pretty weird.
Next thing I knew we appeared to be near Bangkok and when I looked at the time it was 8am, great there goes my connecting bus!!! The bus suddenly stopped and well it had broken down, at 10am some mini buses picked us up and took us into Bangkok.
I realised that now if there was a connecting bus it means I'd get there a whole day later and would struggle to fit any temple seeing in before I had to leave. I was also really wary of the border crossing and getting ripped off. Two Israel-y (I have no idea if that's a word) guys were going to koh Chang for a few days which I thought sounded fun so invited myself along.
At the travel agents, the only bus was the next day and I really didn't fancy a night in Bangkok so I booked a ticket to krabi as Jakub was going there that night.
So had a chilled out day then got on another 18hour bus, this one was less organised and resulted in:
- us leaving nearly two hours late,
- having our bags gone through under the bus (but they took nothing) this made me feel sick though :(
- being dropped off and put into mini buses, then told we shouldn't have got in that one and were charged an extra 50baht for going to krabi,
- then getting to krabi and it's literally non-stop rain.
LOL!!!!
Still the plan was just to chill for a few days and hopefully get some sun before heading back Sunday.
Hope the weathers better there xxx
