I got to the train station and there was just loads of people sat around on the floor haha. I had no idea what platform I wanted or anything.
Started scoping out people and noticed two white girls, asked them if they were going to chiang Mai, and luckily they were, sat with them until the train came in and told them that I was going to the "little bird guesthouse" in chiang Mai and they could join me if they wanted. So we all got on our separate carriages, and I said just wait at the station if u wanna come with me.
As I got on the train, I was really impressed. I mean it was quite simple but it was clean and nice, not the horrors I'd imagined it could have been.
The air conditioning was a little strong though, it felt weird to be cold haha. I immediately wished I'd got a top bunk though cause they had a shelf for baggage right near their bed. I could have put mine there but I'm still super suspicious of anyone.
The train slowly filled up and still no-one came in to my cabin of four beds, I was a bit gutted because I wanted to meet people and I thought it might make the journey more interesting, an then someone came into my cabin... Oh, a monk!!! Great!!!!
I've never felt so awkward in all my life cause I know they have strict rules about women not handing them things and not touching them etc. so I didnt even know if I could look at him.
Then a member of staff came round with menus and drinks of juice, the monk took one and so I naively thought they were free and took one as well lol. Then the monk yabbered away on his two, yes two, mobile phones while I just sat there lol. Then he started pulling his nose hairs out and burping with no sign of embarrassment or secrecy whatsoever. I really won't ever be able to get used to people just burping repeatedly and then acting like they did nothing.
He did ask me where I was going but that was about it, then he went and got in one of the top bunks. Wasn't regretting my choice of a lower bunk now lol.
I decided to order food which I immeadiately regretted when I saw it. It wasn't good. But oh well, luckily I had crisp and cookies in my bag. So I got in bed pulled the curtains across and just read a book or listened to my iPod. Didn't sleep much cause there trains aren't exactly smooth. It was a 17hr train ride aswell.
Anyway finally in chiang Mai at the guesthouse with aphra and izzy (the two girls i met at the train station) which is nice but the shower is a step down lol. Ah well it's cheap...
