We went to Budapest Zoo today for a couple of hours. Got our money's worth, as it was quite cheap and it was much bigger than we expected. Lots of 'big' animals like lions, tigers, leopards, giraffes, elephants, hippos, rhinos, gorillas, orangutans, camels and lots of smaller things like monkeys, bats, reptiles and birds, and their prized wombat, which we never saw.
We got really hungry from all the zooing, so we walked over to Hero's Square where we found a reasonably priced café that served pizza slices and good cakes. We even got a free shot of their own lemonade and a free cookie. We looked at Hero's Square next, which was right next to this, but the place was fairly full of tourists so we didn't stay long.
We walked from the square down Andrassy Boulevard to the Liszt Museum, where we had to wear shoe covers to protect the 'historic floors'. We saw some of Liszt's pianos and fragments of manuscripts, as well as a selection of his possessions, including a cut of his hair from a couple of years before he died. There were a few unusual instruments there too, like the piano glass-harmonica and the piano-orgue, as well as his harmonium and dummy keyboard.
Going out tonight as last night was Sunday, and our attempt at going out was affected by nothing being open.
