Fun-filled day in Bol today. We booked our hostel in Šibenik where we are going tomorrow, then went to the beach. We had one snorkel from yesterday, but decided to buy another so we could go together. We worked out that we had plenty of money for this, so we spent most of the day snorkelling. The swimming area around Zlatni Rat itself is fairly bare, with lots of open space full of pebbles, and not many rocks where most of the fish are. We found that the snorkelling was better from the smaller beaches on the way down to ZR. Lots of different types of fish, but nothing really big or colourful. We were on our last dive of the day and we saw an octopus in amongst a big group of fish feeding on a rock. It was incredibly well camouflaged and looked just like a rock, and would creep around over and under stones, appearing to stretch its tentacles out to catch small fish. Not sure if this is what it was doing though.
Also in the day we hired a pedalo with a slide on board, which we took out to sea and slid into the water. Getting back up onto the pedalo was difficult as there was no ladder, so we had to flop like seals to do this.
This evening we walked to a local monastery where 2 pianists were giving a concert of piano duets by Schubert, Grieg, Debussy and Rachmaninov. This was excellent and they played together extremely well, but the room was sweltering hot.
Ferry back to Split tomorrow, then train to Šibenik.
One more bird for the list - the path from Bol to Zlatni Rat has got quite a few turtle doves in the trees that occasionally feed on the ground.
