We have now completed the crossing of the Gibb River Road and have arrived in Derby - a small town of about 4500 people surrounded by mudflats. It's actually quite a quaint little place with a lovely community spirit. We have spent a few days here while waiting to go on our special treat of a luxury overnight trip to the Horizontal Falls which are about 130km north of Derby in the Buccaneer Archipelago - a group of about 1000 islands.
Again, no fish to be caught by the Jackson's off the Derby pier We watched a group of aboriginal men sitting in the street carving beautiful pictures and patterns onto boab nuts and ended up buying one as a momento. Derby's main employment is to assist the majority of its population, the indigenous people in their health and well-being. We also attended a Baptist Church on Sunday - our first church service in the Kimberley, so we really enjoyed the fellowship with other christians.
