Hey there Hi there Ho there!!
So this was week 2 in the community. It was a lot better than last week! my ride back to the community was pretty crazy! we had to ride up the mtn in the bed of a pickup truck with a buch of sugar bags. no chickens- not yet. then we got off that truck at an intersection and ended up catching a different truck to my house. no chickens there either- just a lot of people. when i got back to my house, my family seemed excited to see me
the internet cafe is closing and im being kicked out so i will finish this at a later date. I love you all!!!!
ok im back in business. so yea my family asked me all about my weekend. i sat down n told them everything we did and about our travel plans n stuff. were still deciding on where we want to travel for our travel days-but the 2 definites are Carnival at Puerto Limon next weekend and climbing Chirripo, the tallest peak in Costa Rica! Im so excited for both of them. Plus we leave for puerto limon on my birthday!!! so thats totaly cool! i went back to school on monday. my classes are going great. i taught more family members- and i ut pictures i had of my family on the board as examples. my students loved the pics of my family. i also have pics of the city from the top of the empire state building- so i show them to people when they ask about ny. they are like-"WoW! thats a lot of buildings!!!! Theyre so tall!!" ON monday we had an interseting incident while playing baseball. we didnt explain that you cant throw the bat after you hit the ball. so... this little kid Aron got slammed in the head with the bat and got a huge gaping cut over his eyebrow. we were lucky beacuse Henry remembered to get rubber gloves last weekend. We cleaned him up as best as possible, but it was clearly evident he needed stitches. the nearest doctor was a 1/2 hr away in Peibayai. So me and another teacher, Dana, drove him down to the clinic. its much different than in the US! doctors dont need to see records or anything. I was in the room with him holding his hand while he got the stitches. it was a really interesting day.
So once again, im leaving you with a cliff hanger because i need to go to my leaders apartment to have dinner and a meeting and stuff. So ill continue tommorow hopefullt- but if not I love you all and youll probly hear from me on Wednesday!!! Byes!!
ok im back again!! So yea last time i left you was in the clinic in Peijbaia. After we got Aron stitched up we took him back up to the pulperia (7-11) and dropped him off. I never saw his parents-which i found pretty interesting. our cultures are just so different. Honestly, i havent see Aron since then and now its more than a week later. it kinda worries me, but ive heard thru the grapevine that hes ok. the funny-but not really-thing was that the next day a girl got smashed in the face witha soccer ball. after that , henry and I decided to teach a first-aid class. we only had class mon, tues, and wed this week. Sam-our leader-came to visit on wednesday. she slept over my house and we had a pijamada (pajama party) we also had our meeting with the junta wed afternoon. its like the board of ed here. we had to meet with them to see what our indepent project is gonna be. we think were gonna either build a fence around the school, paint the school, redo the salon, build a roof for the church, or build bigger pews for the church. we still have to decide. the next morning, sam left an i got to see what life was like for my mom n sister. bottom line-boring. i did some laundry, helped my sisiter cook, and played futbol with my brother. even my mom said to me- im so bored, i have nothing to do. she was gonna teach me how to crochet doilies, but i had to go teach my lessons. we decided to have english class even though school was closed. 4 people showed up. 2 in my class, 2 in henros. it was nice to have a small class though. then we had an adult class. it was a lot of fun. i taught days of the week. my class has so much fun and the good thing is that they all want to be there and want to learn, so i dont have to motivate tham as much as the younger class. the adults all choose to be there, the kids dont. but yea there a fun group. and i hope ill be able to make more friends my age thruogh the adult classes. im also thinking about starting a bracelet making class to get to know the teenage girls here and make some friends. on friday, we took the bus into san isidro. we spent friday doing errands and just chillin. 5 of us decided to try costa rican mcdonalds. it tasted fine- ut our bodies are so not used to eating proccessed foods that all 5 of us got sick! It was an experience for sure! on saturday we went to another hot springs. not as cool as the last one- but it was still awesome. it was in the woods which was pretty awesome. we spent most of the day there. when we came back we hung out and then went to sams apartment to make grilled cheese and dance. it was a lot of fun!! i love how our whole group is really close and we all get along. we always have a lot of fun when were together! on sunday we had a gardening workshop with sams other leader firnd from the summer programs- julian. he tught us how to make a garden n turn it into a lesson so that we can do it in our communitites with our students. then we went back to our communities, but im totally psyched uz im coming back to san isidro on wed becuase were going to Puerto Limon for the biggest carnival of the year on thursday. ON MY BIRTHDAY!!!! so im really excited about that!!!! Yay!! so yea youll either hear from me later or after Limon. but after carnival- im ot gonna be in the city for 2 weeks so u wont hear from me during that time. i dont have acess to a computer in my puelito. but i can always get mail so send me letters!!! i wanna hear how everyone is doing!! ok well cant wait to hear from you!!! I love you all!!! peace!!
