Alex's Amazing Adventure
so i havent updated in awhile, but heres what youve missed. first we went from San Joaquin to Rara Avis. Rara Avis is the largest Rainforest reserve in costa rica. we were supposed to take a 4 hour tractor ride to get to the top, but it was pretty uncomfortable- so we hiked the last 2 hours. the houses were very basic. no electricity or hot water. each room had kerosene lamps, but we had to use little falshlights to walk through the woods back to our cabins at night. We spent most mornings working helping out with trail matinanence , then we would swim in the waterfall in the midday. we and 4 other girls decide to climb half way up the waterfall adn jump off!! it was around 35 feet. it was soo much fun!!! we would have teaching lessons in the afternoon and then we would hang out in the common area and dance and hang out at night. i learned some awesome new dances. one day we took a hr hike through the woods to another waterfall. we swam at the top of it. we jumpd off some more big rocks-which im now totally obseesed with doing. the last day we played soccer against tye guides who worked there. it was an intense game!!! there was knee deep holes of mud in fromt ofthe goals-definitly the dirtiest game of soccer i ever played. we came back down the mtn and spent the night in Las Horquetas. the next day we taught our first class in the school there. it was apractice class so we could learn what worked and what didnt. then we got on another bus and went to la fortuna. La fortuna is a bigger town. we went to a nice itailan dinner- a welcome change from rice n beans- and then went dancing at the discoteca. the next day we went to INVU. a little town near la fortuna. we took some classes at a teacher training school there. then we went to the hot springs. the town we were in was on a volcano-volcun Arenal. they have this resortish place that has all these pools of hot water that is all pure and comes starit form under the volcano. it was so amazing. we just laid in the hot springs and watched lave roll down the volcano. then we went dancing at the discoteca again. there was a live band playong for while. they were pretty good-they did a lot of american covers. OUr leaders friends cam with us so we had people to dance with. it was alot of fun. we waited for the band to finish so we could salsa some more- but it got to be too late so we went back home. the next day we took a 7 hr bus ride from la fortuna to san isidro. it was brutal. san isidro is the most populated city weve been to. we went exploring for awhile, and then we went to dinner. The next day we went shopping for school supplies and gifts and other neccessities. tommorow im going to my village. i live in a small village called la delicia. my family has a mother, 3 sisters-age 19,15,13, and a brother-age 10. the father is in canada working right now. the school has 35 kids in grades pre-k thru 6. there are 3 rooms and 3 teachers, 1 for pre-k, 1 for k, ans 1 for everyone else. im excoted but scared too. ill be beack in san isidro next weekend - so u can expect to hear from me then. if u wanna write me you know my adress.
