Hola Everybody!!!!
So this was my first week in my community. I live in Las Delicias- a little town at the top of a mountain. There is a gorgeos view from the road up the mtn!!! I live in a little house with my Mom, my 3 sisters, and my brother. My Dad is in Canada, so I don't think i'm ever gonna meet him. My family was really shy at first. They didn't know what to say to me and I didn't know what to say to them. I tried to make conversation-but it was difficult because they speak really quickly and they string thier words together. Now I'm totally used to their accents now and we talk all the time. I started school on Monday. My students are adorable!!!! I teach a 1st grade class and a 3rd and 5th grade class. I also help out in other classes and help with the kindergerten too. The are all so eager to learn- which makes my job that much easier. They give me gifts all the time- ive gotten a necklace, peppers, a cardboard box, used lipstick, anything they can find they give me. its so cute!!! The teachers are great too! The director can speak some english, so we help him with his english and he helps us with our spanish. The kinder teacher, Noria, is so sweet. she invites me and the other intern Henry to her house like every weekend- but we can never go because were always busy with the global routes group. But once we have a free weekend, well go visit her. I was really sad the first few days because i was really missing home and i felt so far away and lonely. Im always gonna miss home and my family, but im feeling a lot better and a lot more at home here. things are really starting to pick up cuz we taught out first Adult class this week! it went really well- we taught directions. we had such a big turn out, were gonna have to split the class into 2 next week. I have a lot of free time at school, which kinda sucks cuz its pretty boring, but i keep busy by writng letters and reading my spanidh dictionary. We got to help the kinders make tortillas, empañadas, and dricos in class this week. They are so cute. they always come up to me and say "¿Alejandra, come se dice ----- en Ingles?. which means " how do you say---- in english." They want to nkow how to say everything! they also love to play games like papa caliente and "ESTOP!" which we taught them. its spud, but they have to say stop when they catch the ball,so they call it stop-or for them its estop. I also had to walk a cow home the other day! it had gotten out of its yard and was hanging around in the back of the school so i had to take it and bring it back to its yard. it was kinda surreal, walking down the road with a cow- but totally cool. we are also teaching the kids how to play baseball. theyare slowly catching on, but it took them a while to realize the tagging a person doesnt mean pegging them! we had to stress the importance of keeping the ball in your hand when tagging someone out! Thursday , aftre school, we walked to the next town over, San Martin, and stayed over for the night with our friends Emily and Emily. It was great to see our friends and see there village and school and everything. Now im in San Isidro with the whole group. weve just been takling and sharing stories. we have so much to tell eachother! we are starting to plan our vacation days too. we get 13 days to travel were we want to. Im going back to my village on Sunday- but i'll be back in San Isidro on Sunday-so you'll hear from me then. I love you all and I hope your all doing well!!! Send me some e-mails or post some messages and update me on life at home! Well i gotta go so-peace!
